Technician Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a technician in New York?
The path depends on the specialty: most technicians in New York complete an associate degree or certificate program at a SUNY or CUNY campus, then obtain any required state credential through the New York State Education Department or the relevant licensing board for their field. Biomedical technicians typically pursue CBET certification, HVAC technicians need EPA Section 608 certification, and electrical technicians may require a New York state journeyman license. Completing an apprenticeship registered with the New York State Department of Labor is another recognized route.
Which companies hire technicians in New York?
Employers hiring technicians in New York right now include CVS Health, Walgreens, and NYU Langone Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's large healthcare networks, utility providers, and telecommunications infrastructure companies are among the most consistent sources of technician openings across the state.
Which New York cities have the most technician jobs?
New York, Brooklyn, and Rochester have the most technician openings in New York. New York City leads because of its concentration of hospital systems, commercial real estate, and utility infrastructure, while Buffalo and Albany generate demand through manufacturing, state government facilities, and regional healthcare networks that employ technicians across multiple specialties.
Are there remote technician jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Most technician work is hands-on and site-specific, so fully remote roles are uncommon in this field. About 19% of technician openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions tend to be in technical support, quality assurance, or data-driven monitoring roles rather than maintenance or installation work.
How can I get hired as a technician in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is an apprenticeship registered with the New York State Department of Labor, which pairs paid on-the-job training with classroom instruction across trades like electrical and HVAC. Large employers such as Northwell Health and Consolidated Edison run new-hire training and associate-level programs for candidates coming from adjacent roles like facilities assistant or equipment aide. Completing a certificate at a SUNY community college and earning a foundational credential like CompTIA A+ or EPA Section 608 significantly strengthens an entry-level application.
Where can I find and apply to technician jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to technician jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state. Find the roles that fit your experience and specialty, then apply directly.
