Technician Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a technician in California?
The path depends on your specialty: for example, electrical and HVAC technicians must hold a California Contractors State License Board certification, while laboratory technicians in clinical settings need certification through the California Department of Public Health's Laboratory Field Services division. Most roles require at minimum an associate degree or a completed trade or vocational program in a relevant technical field. Earning a nationally recognized credential such as CompTIA, NARTE, or ASE adds a meaningful edge in competitive California markets.
Which companies hire technicians in California?
Employers hiring technicians in California right now include CVS Health, Apple, and NVIDIA, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of aerospace contractors, life sciences companies, and large utilities means demand is spread across both private industry and public institutions throughout the state.
Which California cities have the most technician jobs?
San Francisco, San Jose, and Santa Clara have the most technician openings in California. Los Angeles leads because of its deep aerospace and defense manufacturing base, the Bay Area follows from its density of semiconductor and biotech employers, and San Diego rounds out the list driven by its large military presence and life sciences corridor along Torrey Pines.
Are there remote technician jobs in California?
Yes, but they're rare. Most technician work is hands-on and tied to a physical site, lab, or piece of equipment. About 18% of technician openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions tend to cluster in quality assurance documentation, technical writing, and remote monitoring roles rather than installation or repair work.
How can I get hired as a technician in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is an apprenticeship or paid internship through a California community college partnership or a large employer's own program. Employers like Kaiser Permanente, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, and major aerospace contractors run structured new-hire and apprenticeship tracks that accept candidates without prior field experience. Completing a state-recognized vocational certificate and targeting entry titles such as technician assistant, lab aide, or maintenance helper gives you a starting foothold. Earning even one relevant certification before applying moves your application past automated screening.
Where can I find and apply to technician jobs in California?
You can find and apply to technician jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings across industries and experience levels. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly from the listings below.
