How do I get a construction manager job in San Francisco?
Focus your search on San Francisco's most active construction sectors: life sciences and lab facilities in Mission Bay, mixed-use commercial development in SoMa, and public transit and infrastructure projects citywide. General contractors, real estate developers, and public agencies like SFMTA and SF Public Works hire regularly. Candidates who can demonstrate experience navigating San Francisco's complex permitting environment and working within dense urban job sites have a clear edge in this market.
Which companies hire construction managers in San Francisco?

San Francisco's market includes a mix of large general contractors, specialty subcontractors, real estate development firms, and public agencies overseeing major civic and transit projects.
Are there remote construction manager jobs in San Francisco?
Yes, but only for certain functions. On-site oversight, subcontractor coordination, and safety inspections are inherently field-based, while preconstruction planning, estimating, and owner-side project management can often be done remotely. About 29% of construction manager openings tied to San Francisco are remote or hybrid as of June 2026. The most remote-compatible roles in San Francisco tend to be with owner-rep firms and program management consultancies rather than general contractors.
How can I get a construction manager job in San Francisco with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in San Francisco is through a project engineer or assistant project manager role with a mid-size general contractor working on commercial or multifamily projects in SoMa, the Dogpatch, or Mission Bay. Public agencies like SF Public Works and SFMTA also hire entry-level project coordinators. Familiarity with California Building Code, local permitting workflows, and BIM tools like Revit or Procore makes candidates noticeably stronger in San Francisco's competitive market.
