SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today, SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of making life multiplanetary and expanding consciousness to the stars.
SpaceXSI is building Super Intelligence to help humanity understand the universe. Our teams are building the full Super Intelligence stack: from our Colossus supercomputers, to Grok models, to our suite of applications, including Grok Bot, Grok Build, Grok Imagine, Grok Voice, and X. We're creating a powerful flywheel where more compute trains better models, better models power more useful products, and what we learn from people using those products shapes what we build next.
CONSTRUCTION SUPERINTENDENT, STRUCTURAL
Most construction jobs manage someone else's crew on someone else's schedule, then end when the project does. This one does not.
SpaceX builds its own launch sites, factories, test stands, and AI superclusters — and it plans to keep building. The rockets, the chips, and the missions only matter if the ground under them is real. Construction is how that ground gets built, in-house and to a standard the company can actually use. The work does not dry up between jobs. There is a next site, and one after that. You lead the crew that builds them. You own a self-performing team. Foremen run their people day to day. You run the foremen. You are in the dirt, walking the work, setting the bar, and clearing whatever is in the way. When someone is ready for more, you say so. When the standard slips, you deal with it.
Scope includes, but not limited to structural steel, ironwork, metal deck, framing, elevated slabs, flooring systems, roofing, carpentry, and general construction of the building itself: the metal skeleton, the floors, the roof, and the data halls. Crane and rigging work is in scope when it is raising the structure. Welding is in scope when it is steel structure.
The team goes where the next site is — a pad, a factory, a supercluster, whatever has to exist before the rest of the company can move. Right now that is Memphis, TN / Southaven, MS. Then it is the next one. Per diem comes with the assignment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Directly oversee foremen and, through them, a large self-perform structural crew installing structural steel, ironwork, metal deck, framing, elevated slabs, flooring systems, roofing, and the general structure of the building, including crane and rigging work that raises the structure and welding of steel structure
- Set clear expectations for safety, quality, schedule, and conduct, and hold foremen and crews accountable when those expectations are missed
- Remove roadblocks so crews can keep working: materials, access, sequencing, coordination with other trades, and decisions
- Recommend promotions, role changes, and corrective action based on performance
- Plan and run the night-shift assignment, including extended hours, as part of a 24/7 operation
- Keep structural installations on SpaceXSI's quality and reliability standards, including code compliance and structural integrity required for data center operation
- Track daily progress and maintain logs, red-line drawings, and as-built documentation for the building structure
- Build and hold an aggressive construction schedule, on time and within budget
- Champion SpaceXSI's safety program and a zero-incident culture around steel erection, crane and rigging work, working at heights, welding, and heavy structural work
- Resolve on-site issues — material delays, technical conflicts, sequencing, and trade coordination — with attention to structural integrity and code compliance
- Inspect work for compliance with local regulations, building codes, safety protocols, and SpaceXSI quality standards
- Report progress, structural construction metrics, and risks to senior leadership
- Relocate with the mobile team as assignments change, starting in Memphis, TN / Southaven, MS
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- 3+ years leading structural construction teams, including supervision of foremen
- 3+ years of direct hands-on experience in structural installations, including structural steel, ironwork, metal deck, framing, elevated slabs, flooring systems, roofing, or general building construction
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience leading large self-perform crews on industrial or mission-critical structural projects
- Direct hands-on experience on industrial processes or heavy structural projects
- Postsecondary diploma or degree in construction management, structural or civil engineering, or a related field
- Track record on data centers, hyperscale facilities, or similar mission-critical structural construction
- Familiarity with Memphis-area building codes, IBC, AISC, OSHA steel erection standards, and industrial permitting
- Experience with Procore, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, MS Project, or similar tools on complex infrastructure work
- Strong grasp of structural critical path, sequencing, and coordination with electrical, mechanical, and civil trades through commissioning
- Understanding of data center structural requirements, including steel frame, elevated slabs, flooring systems, roofing, and load paths built for heavy equipment and 24/7 operation
- History of leading diverse crews to a deadline without giving up collaboration or safety
- Working knowledge of fall protection, crane and rigging, and structural welding safety, and a record of building a safety culture on regulated sites
- Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution on technically complex structural work
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, Project)
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Subject to pre-employment drug screening and random drug/alcohol testing, and pre-employment/post-employment background checks
- This role is part of the mobile construction team and you will be expected to travel to the assigned work project. Current work assignment is based in Memphis, TN / Southaven, MS. Future assignments will require relocation to other U.S. construction sites. Per diem is provided while on assignment
- Must be willing to work any shift, extended hours and/or holidays during assigned work assignment. This includes rotating shifts, nights and/or weekends. If you are assigned night shift, you will receive a shift differential for hours worked during off nominal hours
- Must be willing to work in industrial environments with exposure to noise, heavy equipment, excavations, and energized electrical systems. Must be able to lift 25 lbs or more and perform physically demanding tasks outdoors, indoors, in tight conditions, and/or at heights, with or without reasonable accommodation

Construction Superintendent Jobs in Memphis: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a construction superintendent job in Memphis?
Focus on Memphis employers active in commercial development, healthcare campus expansion, and port-adjacent industrial construction, particularly around the Poplar corridor, the medical district near Methodist and Baptist hospitals, and the Southbrook and Graceland-area commercial zones. General contractors and construction management firms with Memphis office presence hire most consistently. Candidates who can show experience managing subcontractors on occupied or phased sites have a clear edge in this market.
Which companies hire construction superintendents in Memphis?
Companies currently hiring construction superintendents in Memphis include SpaceXSI, xAI, and ARCO Companies, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Memphis hiring tends to be driven by regional general contractors, national construction management firms with local project pipelines, and owner-operators in healthcare, logistics, and retail development.
Are there remote construction superintendent jobs in Memphis?
Remote work is rare for construction superintendents because the role is fundamentally site-based, requiring daily presence to manage crews, inspect work, and coordinate deliveries. About 0% of construction superintendent openings tied to Memphis are remote or hybrid as of November 2026, and those tend to involve pre-construction planning, estimating review, or multi-site oversight roles rather than active field supervision.
How can I get a construction superintendent job in Memphis with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Memphis is moving up from a field foreman or assistant superintendent role with a regional general contractor that runs multiple concurrent projects. Memphis-area healthcare construction and logistics warehouse buildouts often hire assistant superintendents with strong trade backgrounds in carpentry, MEP, or concrete. Familiarity with Procore or Bluebeam and experience on OSHA-compliant job sites can offset a shorter supervisory resume with local employers.
Which industries hire the most construction superintendents in Memphis?
Memphis construction superintendent roles concentrate in Technology & Software, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Memphis's position as a major logistics hub, combined with ongoing medical campus development and commercial retail growth along Germantown Parkway, keeps demand for qualified superintendents steady across those sectors.
