JOB DESCRIPTION
FOX Sports Digital is looking for an AI Newsroom Editor of Content Distribution to join the editorial team in our Los Angeles office. You are both the driver of execution and the navigator of strategy among our editorial content and content distribution, particularly around AI initiatives. You attack with direction, not just motion — knowing where the brand has been, where it is, and where it needs to go. You’re a thinker-doer who can zoom out to build macro-level strategy based on insights (data, social listening, competitive analysis, AI tools), then zoom in to execute tactically, willing to step in directly when needed, like a free safety or utility player. You will help the Manager of Content Distribution to oversee all O&O content distribution for the biggest events and moments in sports with an emphasis on FOX, FS1, and league partners, while utilizing the latest technology and AI enhancements to unlock insights and efficiencies.
A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Planning & Direction:
- Set content distribution objectives in alignment with company goals, trends, and audience behavior
- Ownership and oversight of FOX Sports Digital’s custom AI Newsroom suite of tools (including but not limited to: automated alerts, metadata, descriptions, and transcription services)
- Establish and maintain a content roadmap: past learnings → current execution → future opportunities
- Identify Small / Medium / Large (S/M/L) content buckets to think deeper, not wider
- Master internal and external AI tools (Claude, Automated Alerts Platform, AI Newsroom, Gemini) to streamline processes
Content Distribution Oversight:
- Own the content dissemination strategy across channels (alerts, newsletters, syndication partners, internal comms, etc.)
- Optimize cadence, format, and messaging based on platform algorithms, audience behavior, and content performance data
- Set up AI agents to monitor performance and make recommendations
Intelligence & Insights Hub:
- Conduct competitive audits and real-time social listening backed by AI to detect emerging themes and whitespace opportunities
- Synthesize data into actionable insights and pivot plans quickly based on what’s resonating
Cross-Functional Support & Team Enablement:
- Act as the connective tissue between sports and other teams (social, screening, etc.)
- Partner with the manager of content distribution and the deputy editor to identify priorities and timelines, ensuring content is optimized for distribution from the start
Executional Flexibility:
- Fill gaps where needed — can jump in to write copy, edit headlines, edit stories, etc.
- Provide “bench strength” when fire drills arise, or bandwidth is tight
What You Will Need:
- 3+ years of experience in audience engagement in a newsroom environment
- Strong interest in and knowledge of sports across verticals
- Intense knowledge of FOX Sports properties, shows, and on-air talent
- Ability to be flexible and work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Passionate about and proficient in AI tools and emerging technology
- Analytical and creative in equal measure
- High agility and situational awareness
- Leadership through influence, not control
- Nimble executor and decisive strategist
- Resilient under pressure, opportunistic in chaos
NICE TO HAVE BUT NOT A DEALBREAKER
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field of study preferred, or equivalent experience

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $74,000.00-99,000.00 annually. Content Editor Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a content editor in California?
Content editing in California does not require a state-issued license or board registration. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, or a closely related field, combined with a portfolio that demonstrates real editing work. California's large media, tech, and e-commerce industries favor candidates who can show published clips, familiarity with digital content systems, and a working knowledge of SEO. Starting in editorial assistant or junior copyeditor roles at California publishers or tech companies is the most common path into the profession.
How much do content editors make in California?
Content editors in California earn a median of about $98,030 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $52,510 for the lowest 10% to over $173,590 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire content editors in California?
Employers hiring content editors in California right now include BKF Engineers, Nexstar Media Group, and TikTok, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of entertainment studios, major technology firms, and digital-first media companies makes it one of the broadest hiring markets for content editors in the country.
Which California cities have the most content editor jobs?
Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Jose account for the most content editor openings in California. Los Angeles leads because of its entertainment studios, streaming platforms, and advertising agencies, San Francisco and the broader Bay Area draw demand from technology and SaaS companies with large content teams, and San Diego generates consistent openings through its biotech communications, defense contractors, and growing direct-to-consumer brands.
Are there remote content editor jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. Content editing is largely screen-based work, which makes it well suited to remote arrangements across the industry. About 28% of content editor openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how broadly California employers have adopted flexible work for editorial roles. SEO editing, digital publishing, and content strategy positions are the most consistently remote, while in-house brand and editorial director roles more often require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a content editor in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing an editorial assistant or junior content coordinator role at a California digital publisher, tech company, or marketing agency. Large California employers including technology firms in the Bay Area and media companies in Los Angeles regularly hire editorial assistants as a formal entry point. Building a portfolio through freelance work, university publications, or nonprofit content projects signals readiness to hire managers. A background in copywriting, social media management, or content marketing is a common lateral move that opens content editor doors without prior direct editing titles.
Where can I find and apply to content editor jobs in California?
You can find and apply to content editor jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings updated regularly. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level, preferred location, and specialty, then apply directly to the employers posting them.
