AI Program Manager CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an AI Program Manager role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if your school's DSO determines the work is an integral part of your curriculum. Graduate programs in computer science, data science, business analytics, or information systems typically support this role. You'll need to show the job duties, including AI roadmap ownership and cross-functional team coordination, directly relate to your coursework. Your DSO makes the final determination, not your employer.
Can I work as an AI Program Manager on CPT without employer sponsorship?
CPT authorization comes from your school, not from USCIS or your employer, so there's no employer petition involved. Your employer doesn't file anything with USCIS for CPT. They do need to provide a formal offer letter stating the position, start date, and hours so your DSO can issue the CPT authorization on your I-20. Part-time CPT is under 20 hours per week; full-time is 20 or more.
How do I find employers open to hiring F-1 CPT students for AI Program Manager roles?
Migrate Mate lets you filter AI and program management roles by employers with active LCA filing history, which signals experience working with international candidates. Focus on companies with dedicated AI teams rather than generalist tech departments, since the program manager role needs a real AI roadmap to manage. E-Verify enrollment is a secondary filter worth checking if you plan to pursue STEM OPT after graduation.
Does full-time CPT affect my OPT eligibility later?
One or more academic years of full-time CPT eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely, per USCIS regulations. Part-time CPT, regardless of duration, doesn't affect OPT. If you're considering a full-time CPT offer for an AI Program Manager role, confirm with your DSO exactly how many semesters of full-time CPT you've already used before accepting.
What should the offer letter include for CPT authorization as an AI Program Manager?
Your DSO typically requires the employer's name and address, your job title, a description of duties tied to AI program delivery, the start and end dates, the number of hours per week, and confirmation that a bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant field is required. Vague titles like 'intern' without specific AI or program management responsibilities can slow your DSO's authorization process, so ask the employer to be explicit.
