Group/Division
The Semiconductor Products and Customers (Semi PC) business unit designs, builds and sells KLA’s product portfolio to help chip manufacturers meet high-quality standards for technologies like AI, data centers, automotive and electronic devices. Our inspection, metrology, and analytics systems detect and monitor defects across logic and memory chips, specialty semiconductors, wafers, reticles, advanced packaging, process equipment and materials. We also develop technologies for specialty processes, IC substrates, and PCB manufacturing, including etch and deposition, component inspection, and imaging and analytics. The Measurement, Analytics and Control (MACH) division is KLA’s software powerhouse, responsible for developing high-performance software platforms that support semiconductor manufacturing. MACH delivers cutting-edge technologies in patterning analytics, modeling, and data science—empowering chipmakers to ramp next-gen devices faster and more efficiently. Our cross-functional team of research scientists, software engineers, apps engineers and process engineers are solving the industry’s most complex technical problems.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role, you will play a key part in advancing business priorities by delivering high-impact work across your area of expertise. Software Engineer (AI/ML) intern may work on a variety of tasks including platform for large scale software system, data management, machine learning model training and inference solutions for KLA products. Strong analytical capabilities and problems solving skills are crucial. Familiarity with Machine Learning and Deep Learning solutions would be a big plus. Successful candidates are passionate about software and will have exceptional skills and hands on experience with development in Python, C++, C# or Java. Deep conceptual understanding of multi-threaded and multi process software systems is also necessary. In addition to the above fundamental software skills, any of the following technical hands-on skills are highly desirable.
- Data Structures and algorithms
- Traditional machine learning using Random Forest, XG Boost, Logistic Regression.
- Deep Learning for regression, classification and Generative models.
- TensorFlow or Pytorch, NumPy, scikit-learn, and other ML and DL frameworks.
- Distributed systems for data management.
- Distributed computing infrastructure.
- Cloud technologies for storage, containerization and compute clusters.
- GPU architectures and data management.
Successful candidates for this position will also demonstrate the following non-technical skills.
- Capability to formulate creative solutions through analyzing complex data
- Good communication skills
- Strong team player and motivated by team success
- Strong problem-solving skills

TOTAL REWARDS
Base Pay Range: $22.10 - $42.50 per hour based on pursuit of a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. Primary Location: USA-TX-Austin-KLA

Does a coder role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, coder roles qualify for CPT when the work is an integral part of your curriculum. Can I do CPT as a coder if my degree is in health informatics rather than coding specifically?
Health informatics programs frequently qualify because medical coding is a core competency in that field. The key is demonstrating to your DSO that the specific coder role you've accepted maps to a course or practicum requirement in your program. A detailed job description naming the coding systems involved strengthens that case significantly.
How do I find coder employers who are experienced with F-1 CPT students?

That history is a practical signal that the employer's HR team understands the CPT onboarding process, including I-9 completion and SEVIS reporting requirements.
Does part-time CPT as a coder affect my full-time CPT eligibility later?
Twelve months or more of full-time CPT eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely. Part-time CPT, defined as 20 hours or fewer per week, does not count toward that threshold regardless of how many separate part-time CPT authorizations you accumulate. Track your authorization periods carefully with your DSO to avoid accidentally crossing into full-time territory.
What happens if my coder CPT role ends before the authorized end date on my I-20?
You must stop working immediately if the role ends early and notify your DSO so they can update your SEVIS record. Working past your actual employment end date, even within the authorized window on your I-20, violates your F-1 status. Your DSO can issue a new CPT authorization if you secure a replacement role within the same semester.
