About the Role.
This internship is designed to provide practical, hands-on experience in platform engineering while delivering meaningful improvements to internal developer tooling, deployment processes, and automation practices.
The intern will work on a project within the IT Infrastructure and Integration area, with a focus on improving engineering efficiency, standardization, and operational maturity. The work will expose the intern to modern cloud and DevOps practices in an AWS-based environment and provide experience contributing to real business-critical systems.
What You’ll Do.
-
Integration Middleware Deployment Promotion Standardization: The intern will help standardize the process for promoting integration middleware code across environments (development, QA, and production) by introducing automated API validation. This includes running Postman collections as part of the DevOps pipeline to ensure consistency and reliability during deployments.
-
Automated Repository Documentation: The intern may work on improving documentation consistency across repositories by defining documentation standards, creating reusable templates, and building GitHub Actions to automatically generate or maintain repository documentation as part of CI pipelines.
-
Technical Debt Reduction and Platform Templates: The intern may contribute to reducing technical debt by maintaining the API inventory in LeanIX, developing new templates for building AWS infrastructure using AWS CDK, creating reusable templates for AWS Step Functions and event-driven integrations (API Gateway → EventBridge → Lambda).
What You'll Need.
- Basic proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Java, or Node.js.
- Familiarity with agentic workflows, AI/LLM tools, or related automation concepts is preferred.
- Exposure to AWS cloud services and cloud-native development practices is a plus, but not required.

Get Access To All JobsPlatform Engineering Lead CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Platform Engineering Lead role qualify for CPT authorization?
CPT eligibility depends on whether the role is an integral part of your degree curriculum, not the job title itself. A Platform Engineering Lead position that directly applies skills from courses in cloud infrastructure, systems design, or DevOps practices will typically satisfy the academic integration requirement. Your DSO makes the final determination based on your program's curriculum and the employer's job description.
Can I work full-time as a Platform Engineering Lead on CPT without affecting my OPT?
Full-time CPT of 12 months or more eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely, which matters because OPT is often the bridge to H-1B visa sponsorship. Structuring CPT as part-time, or limiting full-time CPT to under 12 months, preserves your full OPT period. Coordinate timing carefully with your DSO before accepting a full-time Platform Engineering Lead offer.
What documents does my employer need to provide for my CPT I-20 update?
Your DSO needs a formal offer letter stating the employer's legal name, the worksite address, your specific job duties tied to your curriculum, and the exact start and end dates of the CPT period. Platform Engineering Lead offers often include vague role descriptions, so request that the recruiter revise the letter to reference infrastructure, CI/CD pipeline, or cloud platform responsibilities explicitly.
How do I find Platform Engineering Lead jobs with employers open to CPT?
Migrate Mate shows employers with verified DOL Labor Condition Application filing history for platform and infrastructure engineering roles, giving you a concrete signal that a company has sponsored work authorization before. That filing history is one of the strongest indicators that an employer understands and is willing to support F-1 work authorization requirements, including CPT.
Does CPT experience as a Platform Engineering Lead count toward H-1B specialty occupation eligibility?
USCIS evaluates specialty occupation based on whether the role normally requires a bachelor's degree in a directly related field, not on how you gained experience. CPT work experience in a Platform Engineering Lead role can support your resume and help demonstrate progressively responsible duties, but the H-1B petition stands or falls on the job's degree requirement, not your prior authorization type.
