Our pipelines transport natural gas, gasoline, crude oil, carbon dioxide (CO2) and more. We are a market leader in each of our businesses – Natural Gas Pipelines, Products Pipelines, CO2, and Terminals. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The internship opportunities will be focused in one or more of the following areas:
- Automation Engineering including exposure to the techniques, hardware and programming languages employed to provide automatic and unattended operation of natural gas compressor stations, gas processing plants, liquids pumping stations and other ancillary equipment utilized at these facilities.
- Gas Measurement opportunities with data analysis, troubleshooting problems, testing and verifying equipment, and process improvement associated with Gas and Liquid Measurement, Chromatography, Metrology, Flow Computers, and Data Analytics Tools.
- Emissions Testing opportunities including field testing, emissions measurement, environmental performance analysis, and data validation. Exposure to emissions testing methodologies requiring an understanding of thermodynamics, chemistry, statistical analysis and data analytics tools used to evaluate operational performance, identify trends, and transform large, complex datasets into actionable engineering insights.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Working towards Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Petroleum, or Chemical Engineering
- Minimum GPA: 3.0
- Demonstrated experience leading teams of people, either during school, work, or personal life - candidate must describe in detail during the interview
- Self-motivated and driven, with demonstrated interpersonal skills
- Ability to speak publicly in front of groups
- Ability to function effectively in both a team and individual environment
- Attention to detail and strong computer skills are essential
- Driven to discover and determined to deliver
- Open to travel in the United States
- Houston Headquarters Work Location

Can I do CPT part-time while finishing coursework?
Yes. CPT under 20 hours per week is classified as part-time and doesn't count toward the 12-month full-time CPT limit that affects OPT eligibility. Many F-1 students in software engineering programs complete part-time CPT during their final semester, then transition to OPT after graduation. Confirm the hour threshold with your DSO before your start date.
How do I find Specialist - Software Engineering employers open to CPT?

What happens if my CPT role changes scope after I start?
If your job duties shift significantly, your original CPT authorization may no longer cover the work you're actually doing. You'd need to return to your DSO, get an updated I-20 reflecting the new scope, and potentially restart the authorization process. This is especially common in specialist engineering roles where project assignments change mid-engagement, so document any scope changes immediately.
Does CPT in a software engineering role count toward H-1B eligibility later?
CPT work experience can support an H-1B visa petition as evidence of specialized expertise in your field, but CPT itself doesn't create any special H-1B pathway. Your employer would still need to file an H-1B petition, secure selection in the annual lottery, and meet all standard requirements. Specialist-level engineering experience from CPT strengthens the specialty occupation argument but doesn't bypass the cap or lottery process.
