Get Access To All JobsFederal Account Executive CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Federal Account Executive role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if your degree program includes coursework in enterprise sales, government contracting, public sector business development, or a related field. Your DSO will evaluate whether the specific duties described in your offer letter constitute an integral part of your curriculum. The more directly the job responsibilities connect to your enrolled courses, the stronger your CPT case.
Can I work for a federal contractor as an F-1 CPT student without a security clearance?
Most entry-level and mid-level Federal Account Executive roles at prime contractors don't require a clearance on day one. Clearance-required positions are a separate category. Focus your search on business development, capture management, or agency relationship roles that involve client coordination rather than access to classified systems. Migrate Mate surfaces these positions filtered by employer and role type.
What happens to my CPT authorization if the contract I was hired to support gets canceled?
CPT authorization is tied to your employment, not to a specific government contract. If your employer reassigns you to a comparable Federal Account Executive role under a different contract, your authorization typically remains valid as long as the duties don't materially change. Confirm with your DSO before accepting any reassignment to avoid an unauthorized employment issue.
How does CPT affect my OPT eligibility after I graduate?
Full-time CPT used for 12 months or more eliminates your post-completion OPT eligibility entirely. Part-time CPT, regardless of total duration, does not affect OPT. If your Federal Account Executive role is part-time during the semester, you preserve your full OPT period. Confirm the hours classification with your DSO before your CPT start date.
Which employers hiring Federal Account Executives are most likely to sponsor H-1B after CPT?
Large federal system integrators and government-focused technology companies tend to have established H-1B visa sponsorship programs because they regularly hire from a globally recruited talent pool. Reviewing an employer's Labor Condition Application filing history through O*NET and DOL disclosure data gives you a concrete signal of sponsorship willingness before you invest time in an application.
