CPT Sales Jobs
Sales roles on CPT span account management, business development, and inside sales, all of which qualify when your program ties the work to coursework in marketing, management, or a related field. Your DSO must authorize each CPT position individually, and part-time CPT (under 20 hours per week) keeps your full-time eligibility intact for OPT later.

What to expect for the 2027 Nestlé USA Sales Internship:
We offer a 10-week paid internship in the Nestlé Sales Organization. The Sales internship is an introduction to a career in sales and the partnerships with our major customer teams. Interns will develop their knowledge and understanding of the Consumer Products and Food industry, tackle relevant business challenges, develop selling skills, and inspire change for real processes and business needs. The experience requires collaboration with team members from across business divisions, networking with senior management, and participation in social engagements with interns from other programs.

Do sales roles qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, sales roles qualify for CPT when the work is an integral part of your curriculum and your DSO approves the connection to your field of study. Titles like business development representative, account manager, or inside sales associate commonly qualify for students in business, marketing, communications, or management programs. The job description, not just the title, is what your DSO evaluates.
Can I do CPT at a commission-based sales job?
CPT authorization covers the position itself, not the pay structure, so commission-based roles are permitted as long as the employer is a legitimate U.S. entity and the work aligns with your coursework. Your DSO will need the employer's legal name, address, and a description of duties. Straight-commission arrangements are legal under CPT, but make sure the offer letter documents the compensation structure clearly.
How do I find sales employers who are comfortable with CPT?
Many smaller sales organizations have never hired an F-1 student and may be unfamiliar with CPT. Migrate Mate lists employers with international hiring experience, making it easier to target companies that won't require extensive education on your work authorization. When you do reach out, having a one-page explanation of CPT ready for HR speeds up the conversation significantly.
Does CPT in a sales role count toward my OPT eligibility?
Part-time CPT (fewer than 20 hours per week) has no effect on OPT eligibility regardless of how long you work. Full-time CPT (20 hours or more per week) starts counting against the 12-month threshold that eliminates OPT. If you plan a full-semester or full-year sales internship, track your authorized hours carefully and consult your DSO before accepting any full-time arrangement.
What documents does a sales employer need from me for CPT onboarding?
You'll provide your CPT-endorsed I-20, which lists the authorized employer, job title, and dates. Employers also need your passport and visa for I-9 completion. Some sales organizations using E-Verify will run your documents through that system as well. Your CPT authorization is employer-specific, so switching to a different sales company mid-semester requires a new DSO authorization and a new I-20 before you start.
