CPT iOS Engineer Jobs
iOS Engineer CPT jobs let F-1 students apply Swift, SwiftUI, and Xcode skills in a role your DSO can authorize as an integral curriculum requirement. Employers hiring on CPT don't file with USCIS, so authorization moves at your school's pace, not a government processing queue.

Does an iOS Engineer role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if the position directly relates to your enrolled degree program, such as computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field. Your DSO evaluates whether the iOS Engineer duties connect to your specific curriculum. Roles focused on Swift development, mobile application architecture, or iOS SDK integration typically satisfy that academic linkage, especially when your coursework includes mobile development or software design.
Can I work on a full-time iOS Engineer CPT placement, or does part-time affect my OPT eligibility?
You can do either, but the distinction matters for OPT. Full-time CPT, meaning 20 or more hours per week, used for 12 months or more eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely. Part-time CPT, under 20 hours per week, doesn't count toward that 12-month threshold regardless of how long it continues. Many F-1 students in iOS engineering roles choose part-time CPT during the academic year to preserve their post-graduation OPT option.
What should the offer letter include to satisfy my DSO's CPT review?
Your DSO typically needs the employer's name and address, your job title, a description of iOS Engineer duties, your start and end dates, and confirmation of whether the role is part-time or full-time. Some schools also require a statement explaining how the position integrates with your coursework. Ask your DSO for their specific template before you request the letter from the employer to avoid back-and-forth revisions.
How do I find iOS Engineer employers who are comfortable hiring on CPT?
Search on Migrate Mate, which surfaces employers with documented LCA filing history in software development occupations. Companies that have previously sponsored work visas are generally more familiar with F-1 work authorization, including CPT, and have HR processes to handle the documentation. Startups and mid-size product companies with active iOS teams tend to move faster on CPT paperwork than large enterprises with rigid onboarding pipelines.
Does CPT for an iOS Engineer role count toward the H-1B cap-exempt criteria?
No. CPT is F-1 student work authorization tied to your academic program. It doesn't create any cap-exempt status or credit toward H-1B visa eligibility. If you want to transition from CPT to H-1B after graduation, your employer will need to submit a petition during the regular H-1B registration window, subject to the annual cap and lottery. CPT and OPT are entirely separate from the H-1B process.
