Get Access To All JobsManufacturing Operations Manager CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Manufacturing Operations Manager role qualify for CPT?
It qualifies if your academic program includes coursework directly related to the role, such as industrial engineering, operations management, supply chain, or quality systems. Your DSO must determine that the specific duties in your offer letter are an integral part of your curriculum, not just relevant to your general field of study.
Can I do CPT at a manufacturing plant that has multiple sites?
Yes, but your CPT authorization is tied to a specific employer and worksite location. If the company rotates you across facilities during your placement, each new location must be disclosed to your DSO and may require an updated I-20. Confirm the reporting requirement with your DSO before accepting a role with multi-site responsibilities.
How do I find manufacturing employers who will sponsor me after CPT?
Search Manufacturing Operations Manager roles on Migrate Mate to identify employers with documented LCA filing history for operations and management positions. Employers who have filed LCAs for similar roles have already navigated DOL prevailing wage certification, which is a strong indicator they're prepared to sponsor H-1B petitions for the right candidate.
Will my CPT as an operations manager count against my OPT?
Part-time CPT, defined as fewer than 20 hours per week, doesn't affect your OPT eligibility regardless of how many months you use it. Full-time CPT totaling 12 months or more does eliminate your OPT. Most manufacturing co-op and internship programs run full-time, so track your cumulative full-time CPT carefully across all semesters.
What documentation should I bring when approaching a manufacturer about CPT?
Bring a draft offer letter or job description that maps specific duties to your coursework, your current I-20, and a written statement from your academic advisor confirming the placement meets curriculum requirements. Manufacturers unfamiliar with CPT often need this documentation to understand they're not filing anything with USCIS; authorization is entirely school-managed.
