S&P Global Energy is seeking candidates for our 10-week IMPACT Summer Internship Program from June 2026 within our Research and Analytics business.
Location:
Houston, TX (relocation assistance not available)
The Team:
Join a globally recognized team that provides strategic insights and expertise in energy markets, climate solutions, and sustainable strategies for clients across various sectors, including Oil, Gas, Power, Chemicals, Agri, and Metals.

Responsibilities and Impact:
- Conduct research and analyze market trends in energy and climate sectors.
- Support modelling efforts and collaborate with global analysts.
- Utilize tools like Python, Power BI, and Excel for data structuring and visualization.
- Participate in policy evaluation and data management tasks.
- Engage with industry experts to gain insights into energy transition dynamics.
Basic Required Qualifications:
- Current undergraduate or graduate student graduating May 2027.
- Must be available for internship from June - August.
- Educational background in Engineering (Chemical, Energy, Petroleum, Mechanical) and related studies are preferred.
- Must have experience or strong interest in commodities, energy global markets and overall interconnected energy business ecosystem.
- Strong quantitative skills and research background, including experience using Excel and/or other data analytics tools.
- Familiarity using Generative AI tools.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and problem-solving skills.
- Intellectual curiosity and strong desire to learn and explore new ideas.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in market analysis or policy evaluation.
- Familiarity with energy markets, climate solutions, and sustainable strategies.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

Can I work as a Research Analyst for a non-profit or government agency on CPT?
CPT authorization covers any employer type, including non-profits, federal contractors, and government-affiliated research institutes. The requirement is curricular integration, not employer classification. Many F-1 students complete CPT at policy research centers, public health agencies, and federally funded research labs. Confirm the employer understands CPT documentation requirements before accepting an offer, since some government contractors also require E-Verify enrollment.
What happens if my Research Analyst CPT job extends into a second semester?
CPT authorization is semester-specific. If your role continues into a new semester, your DSO must issue a new CPT endorsement on an updated I-20 before that semester begins. Will full-time CPT as a Research Analyst affect my OPT eligibility?
