Creative Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a creative job in Chicago?
Focus your search on Chicago's advertising agencies in River North, in-house creative teams at the city's major consumer brands, and the fast-growing content and design practices inside Fulton Market tech companies. A portfolio tailored to the sector you're targeting matters more than a resume here. Connecting with the Chicago chapter of professional creative organizations and attending local portfolio reviews also helps candidates stand out in a market that rewards local visibility.
Which companies hire creatives in Chicago?
Companies currently hiring creatives in Chicago include Salesforce, VML, and EVERSANA, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Chicago's hiring landscape mixes legacy advertising holdcos, fast-growing fintech and health-tech firms, and a strong base of consumer packaged goods companies that maintain large in-house creative departments.
Are there remote creative jobs in Chicago?
Yes, though it depends heavily on the role: desk-based creative work such as copywriting, content strategy, and digital design is commonly remote, while production, photography, and experiential roles are usually on-site. About 68% of creative openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of September 2026. Chicago's large agency and tech sectors account for most of the remote-eligible postings.
How can I get a creative job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Chicago is through agency internship programs, which many River North and West Loop shops run year-round and regularly convert to full-time roles. Entry-level content coordinator, junior designer, and social media associate positions at Chicago's consumer brands and mid-size agencies are also common starting points. Building a focused portfolio with real or speculative Chicago-brand work and attending events hosted by local creative meetups gives candidates a concrete edge over applicants with generic national experience.
Which industries hire the most creatives in Chicago?
Most creative openings in Chicago sit in Medical Devices, Chemicals & Materials, and Technology & Software, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Chicago's strength as a hub for advertising, consumer goods, and financial services means those sectors consistently drive the highest volume of creative hiring across both agencies and in-house teams.
