Curriculum Specialist Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a curriculum specialist in Texas?
Most curriculum specialist roles in Texas require a bachelor's degree in education or a related field, and many employers prefer or require a valid Texas teaching certificate issued by the Texas Education Agency. Candidates with classroom teaching experience aligned to TEKS standards move most easily into the role. A master's degree in curriculum and instruction or instructional design strengthens candidacy for district-level or senior positions, and Texas ESCs often offer relevant professional development pathways.
How much do curriculum specialists make in Texas?
Curriculum specialists in Texas earn a median of about $78,710 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $52,490 for the lowest 10% to over $106,070 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire curriculum specialists in Texas?
Employers hiring curriculum specialists in Texas right now include Dallas Independent School District, Dallas County, and Houston Methodist, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large urban school districts, public university systems, and a growing base of EdTech and corporate training companies make it one of the more active states for this role year-round.
Which Texas cities have the most curriculum specialist jobs?
Dallas, Houston, and Seagoville have the most curriculum specialist openings in Texas. Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth lead because of their massive independent school districts, large community college systems, and significant corporate training operations, while Austin's concentration of higher education institutions, state agencies, and technology companies drives consistent demand there as well.
Are there remote curriculum specialist jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than many education roles, because curriculum development and instructional design work is largely document- and platform-based rather than classroom-based. About 10% of curriculum specialist openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how well the design and review phases of the work translate to distributed settings. Corporate training and EdTech roles account for the largest share of fully remote positions.
How can I get hired as a curriculum specialist in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into the role from classroom teaching, since Texas school districts frequently promote teachers with strong TEKS alignment experience into curriculum assistant or instructional coach positions. Large districts such as Houston ISD and Dallas ISD post curriculum coordinator and curriculum support roles that are designed for educators making their first move off the classroom. Building a portfolio of sample scope-and-sequence documents or unit plans, and earning a Texas ESC-recognized instructional design certificate, gives early-career candidates a concrete edge in a competitive applicant pool.
Where can I find and apply to curriculum specialist jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to curriculum specialist jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings from school districts, universities, and employers across the state. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly to the ones that match.
