Data Center Construction Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data center construction worker in Texas?
Most data center construction roles in Texas require a combination of field trade experience and project-level credentials rather than a single state license. Electricians must hold a Texas Electrical License issued through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, while plumbers need a Texas state plumbing license. Project managers and superintendents typically enter through journeyman-level trade work or a construction management degree, with certifications like LEED, RCDD, or a general contractor registration adding significant value with Texas hiring managers.
How much do data center constructions make in Texas?
Data center constructions in Texas earn a median of about $101,470 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $64,040 for the lowest 10% to over $166,800 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire data center constructions in Texas?
Employers hiring data center constructions in Texas right now include Oracle, Fluidstack, and Johnson Controls, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of hyperscale campuses and colocation facilities means general contractors and specialty subcontractors alike maintain a steady pipeline of active roles across the state.
Which Texas cities have the most data center construction jobs?
Abilene, Austin, and Dallas are the cities with the most data center construction openings in Texas. The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex leads by a significant margin due to its fiber infrastructure, low energy costs, and the density of major hyperscale campuses in Garland and the Design District, while Austin and San Antonio draw roles tied to ongoing tech sector expansion and colocation development in those corridors.
Are there remote data center construction jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Data center construction is fundamentally an on-site discipline, so most roles require a physical presence on active job sites in Texas. About 10% of data center construction openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions are almost exclusively in project controls, estimating, and document management rather than field or superintendent work.
How can I get hired as a data center construction worker in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a registered apprenticeship in the electrical or mechanical trades, since Texas data centers are heavily MEP-intensive and large general contractors like Holder and Turner recruit apprentices directly from programs affiliated with the Independent Electrical Contractors of Texas and the Associated Builders and Contractors Gulf Coast chapter. Candidates who hold an OSHA 10 card and have completed any commercial construction internship or helper role gain a concrete edge over applicants with no site exposure at all.
Where can I find and apply to data center construction jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to data center construction jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Search the listings, find roles that match your experience and location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
