ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages a team supporting and/or implementing hardware and software project(s) and/or internal systems. Defines, documents and manages scope, expectations, implementation approach, deliverables and acceptance testing criteria.
Manages and controls activities in multi-functional areas or sections. Ensures appropriate operational planning is effectively executed to meet corporate specifications. Successful track record in applications implementation and as a manager. Expert knowledge of all applications within a business area; plus, some knowledge of other applications. BA/BS degree preferred.
Develops teams supporting and/or implementing multi-functional and/or multi-location projects and/or systems. Defines, documents, and manages scope, expectations, implementation approach, results and acceptance testing criteria. Develops and leads an effective risk mitigation strategy for the project(s).
Assists in the development of short-, medium-, and long-term plans to achieve strategic objectives. Regularly interacts across functional areas with senior management or executives to ensure unit objectives are met. Ability to influence thinking or gain acceptance of others in sensitive situations. Successful track record as a manager. Detailed knowledge of technical and business concepts of several related applications areas. BA/BS degree preferred.
Responsibilities
Be a part of our organization supporting hyper scale distributed infrastructure for the cloud. Oracle’s Data Center team is rapidly expanding with new regions and sites across AMER each month. Not only does this job involve launching new sites and their exponential growth, but also involves team building across an entire organization in relation to recruiting, interviewing, and growing careers within the Data Center Organization.
We’re looking for an experienced leader, with strong people management experience, business acumen and a well-rounded IT technical abilities (at scale) to lead the teams responsible for building and supporting our cloud data centers in the United States. The successful candidate will have all 3 of these attributes in equal measure and be hard-working at a high level.
- Providing leadership, direction, and operational excellence within a subset of sites.
- Working at a global level with peers to achieve consistency and avoid site variability at all costs.
- Strong knowledge of computer hardware (Server, Storage, and Networking devices).
- Drive and manage escalations for rapid resolution or further escalation.
- Working with distributed teams and contributing to the success of his/her team and other related teams.
- Coaching and mentoring managers and individual contributors across the organization starting within your site.
- Growing the team by recruiting and hiring top talent in diverse marketplaces.
- Delivering expansion projects on-time with high quality.
- Collaborating and working effectively with best-in-class architects, engineers, product managers, QA and Documentation teams.
Detailed Description and Job Requirements
Lead and manage teams responsible for the availability of several of Oracle’s Cloud Infrastructure in data centers in Northern Virginia, specifically, Manassas, Ashburn and Sterling.
This involves managing the physical sites, the teams that operate these sites, and managing the colocation partners we may use.
This role is a manager of multi discipline Individual contributors at scale within a Cloud Data Center space. You should be an experienced manager of diverse teams, able to navigate local customs, laws & employment directives, strong people management ability and a deep technical grounding in the physical aspects of IT Service Delivery.
Typical functions for day to day in the role are:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of all Data Center sites under your area, in a 24/7 mission critical environment.
- Managing the day to day activities of the data center technicians in multiple locations and data halls in a 24/7 environment.
- Managing installation, Field Change Orders, and hardware break/fix activities for multiple data center locations in a 24/7 environment.
- Responsible for ensuring timely delivery of services/tasks to meet project milestones.
- Working with project managers to guide their actions and provide ‘on-the-ground’ advice / support.
- Ensuring the quality benchmark is upheld for new sites / regions / deployments and being the gate keeper of this.
- Driving the delivery of improvements and providing detailed, concrete feedback in project reviews / lesson learned activities.
- Interacting across functional areas and teams (e.g., Engineering, Build, Site Selection, Business Operations etc.).
- Reacting to and managing any incidents that occur, driving resolution and After-Action analysis.
- Capacity expansions at all scales (rack additions, block additions, white space growth, new sites).
- Drive appropriate recruitment in your area at a fast pace, ensuring the employment of high-quality team members with a passion for excellence.

Work with an elite team to implement and support pioneering Oracle technology in Cloud Data Centers. This involves working on the build out of new sites, hiring new teams and staff, working with local partners such as HR, Sales and other departments as well as vendors to Oracle.

- Negotiating and coordinating with local vendors, and will be expected to drive performance and expectations.
- Work closely with Human Resources and any local Environment Health and Safety to ensure the best possible relationship and care for Oracle employees.
- Implement processes and standard methodologies to conform to local laws, policies, and procedures.
- Grow your teams, provide progression, leadership, guidance, and training to allow them to excel.
- Participate in Talent review process, performance management, and other topics pertaining to effective people management.
- Understand how to manage IC’s for the best outcome and self-sufficiency.
- Effective upwards reporting of progress, KPIs, and incidents.
- Critical thinking, and always wondering how to scale things up.
- Focus and prioritize appropriately on what is most important at any point in time and ability to task-shift rapidly.
- Working as a key partner on immovable deadline projects will also be a crucial part of the engagement.
About the Role:
What we are looking for is someone who is passionate about and has experience leading and growing teams in the development of large-scale distributed Management Services, designing and developing the infrastructure as a services platform that drives Public Cloud, PaaS and SaaS offerings. As a Data Center Manager, you will lead teams tasked with providing 24/7 Cloud Data Centers support for our Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Reporting into an Area Director of Cloud Hardware Support, the position requires a local presence to assist with the support of multiple Cloud Data Centers for Oracle. This position requires onsite presence and could include overnight shift as business dictates.

A track record of an ability to influence thinking or gain acceptance of others in sensitive situations. Fluent English written and verbal. BA/BS degree preferred.
