Entry Level Data Specialist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level data specialist job?
Employers hiring at the entry level look for hands-on evidence of data skills over formal work history. A portfolio of projects, coursework in SQL, Python, or Excel, and any internship or volunteer work involving data analysis all strengthen a candidacy. Bootcamp graduates and self-taught candidates are competitive when they can show clean, documented work. Targeting roles that list zero to two years of experience as acceptable is the most direct path.
Which companies hire entry level data specialists?
Companies hiring entry level data specialists right now include Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Amazon, and Oscar Management Corporation, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a wide range of employers, including large enterprises with structured analyst programs, mid-size companies building out data functions, and startups that need a versatile first data hire.
Are there remote entry level data specialist jobs?
Yes, remote and hybrid options exist at the entry level, though on-site roles remain common. About 23% of entry level data specialist openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, so candidates who need location flexibility have real options alongside traditional office-based positions.
Are these new grad data specialist jobs?
Yes, the openings here include new grad, recent graduate, and junior data specialist roles alongside other entry level postings. A new grad-friendly listing typically welcomes zero to two years of experience and treats internships, academic projects, or a portfolio as qualifying background. If a posting does not require prior full-time employment, it is worth applying as a new grad.
Which industries hire the most entry level data specialists?
Entry Level data specialist roles concentrate in Education, Technology & Software, and Healthcare & Medical Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors tend to drive hiring at this level because they generate high volumes of operational and customer data that junior analysts can work with immediately, without needing years of domain expertise first.
