Tips for Your New Grad Job Search
Translate coursework into resume bullets
Employers reading new grad resumes expect limited work history, so your academic projects, capstone work, and lab research need to carry weight. Frame each with the problem you solved, tools you used, and a measurable outcome wherever you can name one.
Target rotational programs by design
Many large employers run structured rotational programs specifically for new grads, giving you exposure across departments before locking into one role. Search job titles that include 'rotational,' 'associate development,' or 'leadership program' to surface these structured tracks.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists new grad openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing. Applying early matters because many new grad roles close as soon as a cohort is filled.
Customize your cover letter by function
A cover letter addressed to a finance team should read differently from one going to a clinical operations group, even if your degree is the same. Name the specific team, reference one responsibility from the posting, and connect it directly to a project or course you completed.
Prepare for competency-based interview questions
New grad interviews frequently rely on behavioral questions that ask you to demonstrate skills you may not have exercised at a full-time job yet. Build three or four stories from internships, group projects, or volunteer work that each map to a different competency: communication, problem-solving, collaboration, and adaptability.
Negotiate your start date strategically
Many new grads accept the first offer date without asking, but employers hiring recent graduates often have flexibility if you ask professionally. If you have a graduation ceremony, a licensing exam, or relocation to manage, name the specific date you need and propose it in the same message as your acceptance.
New Grad Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most new grads?
The companies hiring the most new grads right now include Cleveland Clinic, Walgreens, and BAYADA Home Health Care, with the largest share of openings in New York, Ohio, and New Jersey, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is spread across healthcare systems, technology companies, and financial services firms, so opportunities exist in most major metro areas.
How many new grad jobs are remote?
About 3% of new grad openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, though the share varies significantly by function. Technology-focused roles such as software development and data analysis tend to have the highest remote availability, while clinical, lab, and operations-facing positions are more likely to require in-person presence from day one.
How do you become a new grad?
Becoming competitive as a new grad candidate means completing a relevant degree program, building hands-on experience through internships or academic projects, and earning any licensure or certification your target field requires before you apply. Start applying three to six months before graduation, use your university's career center for employer connections, and have your resume reviewed by someone working in your target industry.
How do you get hired as a new grad with little experience?
Getting hired with limited experience means reframing what counts as experience: academic projects, capstone assignments, part-time work, volunteer roles, and student organization leadership all demonstrate real skills. Focus your applications on employers that advertise entry-level or new grad cohorts, because those postings are written expecting candidates without full-time professional history. Tailor your resume to each posting rather than sending a single generic version.
What does the new grad interview process look like?
The new grad interview process typically starts with a recruiter screen covering your background, graduation timeline, and interest in the role. That is followed by one or two rounds of interviews with hiring managers or team members, often using behavioral questions that ask you to describe situations from your academic or internship experience. Some employers add a written exercise, case study, or skills assessment before extending an offer.
Where can I find and apply to new grad jobs?
You can find and apply to new grad jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your degree, skills, and preferred location, then apply directly to each one that fits. Applying directly through each listing is the fastest way to get your application in front of the hiring team.
