Overview of the Data Specialist
We are seeking an experienced, financial services–focused professional to join our team as a Data Specialist. This role is ideal for a highly detail-oriented, analytical, and collaborative individual who excels at managing complex data conversions and partner integrations. The Senior Data Specialist provides end-to-end support for data transfers associated with onboarding new broker-dealer and vendor data onto BETA’s platform.
Position Summary:
- Serve as the Lead Analyst for data conversions from acquired brokerage firms onto BETA’s platform for new or existing clients.
- Define conversion requirements and specifications through in-depth source data analysis.
- Develop clear, detailed mapping documentation and pseudocode to support technical programming teams.
- Act as a key liaison between clients and internal conversion teams to identify, document, and resolve issues and risks from testing through production.
- Facilitate client mapping sessions to conduct gap analysis across all relevant data modules and finalize actionable conversion instructions.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of vendor de-conversion processes and firm-specific specifications to support scalable, repeatable data integrations.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Data Specialist:
- Perform detailed data analysis on large and complex file sets.
- Create and maintain mapping specifications, pseudocode, mapping spreadsheets, validation tables, and reconciliation tools.
- Support test cycles and production validation, ensuring data accuracy and completeness.
- Continuously refine and improve the support model for new vendor partner integrations.
- Evolve documentation standards and workflows to improve efficiency and consistency across conversions.
- Analyze IBM mainframe file extracts using advanced Excel functionality, including formulas, pivot tables, and data validation techniques.
- Develop and update mapping specifications aligned with business requirements, technical standards, and industry best practices.
- Oversee test event execution and perform extensive validation of test results.
- Provide hands-on support during production go-live events.
- Participate in client and internal meetings, communicating status, risks, and resolutions clearly and professionally.
- Serve as the primary liaison between clients and programming teams, ensuring accurate translation of business requirements into technical solutions.
Skills and Experience of the Data Specialist:
- 6+ Years of relevant experience in client integration project, preferably within the finance services industry
- Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required
- Ability to manage multiple integration projects concurrently while meeting defined timelines.
- Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to partner effectively with internal teams and external client stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ownership and accountability from requirements gathering through production implementation.
- Commitment to continuous improvement, including participation in post-project reviews.
- Strong customer service mindset with the ability to work independently.
- High level of integrity, dependability, and professionalism.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Project.
- Advanced Excel expertise, with the ability to analyze large datasets using formulas, pivot tables, and advanced querying techniques; macro development is a plus.
- Familiarity with IBM mainframe environments or basic COBOL concepts is a plus.
