DIRECTOR OF PRODUCT EXPERIENCE & DESIGN | Behavioral Healthcare – SUD & MH
Remote, with Quarterly Travel to Pompano Beach, FL
Own the end-to-end patient experience for a national virtual care platform — from setting the vision to building the technology that powers it. Banyan Treatment Centers is seeking a Director of Product Experience & Design to sit at the intersection of design, product, and technology, with the technical depth to evaluate platforms on their merits, prototype where it makes sense, and connect the EHR, the virtual care platform, and patient-facing apps to architect a solution that improves the patient experience and supports significant growth.
Note: This role requires an active portfolio with 3+ case studies showing end-to-end ownership and measurable impact. Please include a link in your resume or cover letter.
ABOUT THE COMPANY
Banyan Treatment Centers is a leading national provider of intensive treatment for individuals struggling with Substance Use Disorders (SUD) and co-occurring Mental Health (MH) conditions. Backed by TPG, one of the nation's largest private equity firms, Banyan is rapidly scaling access to high-quality, compassionate behavioral health care across the country. Banyan operates a high-performing virtual care service that has achieved strong and profitable growth within the eight states where it maintains brick-and-mortar facilities. Banyan sees a compelling opportunity to expand virtual care nationally and is building the technology, automation, and operating infrastructure to support that vision.
WHY JOIN BANYAN?
This is a product leadership role for a builder energized by the opportunity to both set the vision for Banyan's virtual care experience and build it — someone who shapes the problem before the brief is written and pushes back when something isn't right. It's an entrepreneurial, own-it-end-to-end opportunity for someone who wants to lead and ultimately grow a product and design function.
As Director, Product Experience & Design, you will:
- Join a mission-driven organization tackling one of the most critical healthcare challenges in the U.S.
- Partner directly with the General Manager of Virtual Care, with visibility to senior leadership, the CEO, and the board
- Build the technology and operating model for a national virtual care platform from a strong existing base
- Competitive compensation with meaningful upside tied to program growth and company performance
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Product Vision & Patient Experience
- Design and own the product vision for Banyan's virtual care experience — the end-to-end patient journey from first contact through program completion — with a clear point of view on what each moment should feel like and what is needed to keep patients coming back
- Own the patient digital journey: scheduling UX, digital intake, mobile/web portal, secure messaging, appointment reminders, nudges, engagement/retention tooling
- Define where AI/LLM tools should guide, nudge, or support a patient directly — and where they should stay quiet or escalate to a clinician or care team member — in partnership with clinical leadership
Program Operations & Workflow Design
- Map end-to-end patient flow across intake, scheduling, clinical delivery, and step-down pathways
- Eliminate toggling between systems by defining integration requirements across EHR, scheduling, telehealth, billing, and CRM platforms, partnering with engineering and vendors on execution
Platform Architecture & Technology
- Conduct a structured assessment of Banyan's current virtual care platform, EHR, and adjacent systems; recommend a target-state architecture that supports an ideal patient experience and scale
- Lead buy, build, or partner decisions across video, scheduling, patient intake, e-prescribing, engagement, clinical documentation and tooling — serving as the in-house technical expert who can evaluate platforms on their merits, prototype quickly, and recommend with conviction
- Manage vendor selection and implementation and author clear PRDs, functional specs, and integration requirements, engaging directly with vendor engineering teams to solution around roadblocks
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- An updated portfolio demonstrating strong product design craft, end-to-end ownership, and shipped work with measurable impact, including at least three demonstrable case studies
- 5+ years leading product/design for consumer-facing or patient-facing digital products, ideally in healthcare, health tech, or another high-trust, high-stakes environment
- Prototyping fluency — comfortable building interactive prototypes that show how patients will navigate the experience, with a track record of taking concepts from prototype through production
- Instrumentation & A/B testing chops — fluency running structured, fast tests (including with pre-production prototypes), comfortable reading telemetry dashboards and event logs to identify patterns and failure points
- Hands-on technical fluency — you know the front-end architecture and understand API logic and how data moves between APIs, servers, and user interfaces, comfortable speaking the same language as engineering teams at partners and vendors
- A track record evaluating, selecting, and implementing platforms (EHR, CRM, patient engagement) that integrate with the underlying technical stack
Preferred:
- A personal connection to the recovery space, or genuine passion for behavioral health/virtual care, especially services and programs that require lasting repeat engagement to demonstrate outcomes
- Experience building patient self-service scheduling capabilities is a plus
- Experience designing AI-powered, personalized, or conversational patient experiences, including defining when AI should guide a patient directly versus escalate to a human; experience managing the AI-to-human hand-off
- Working knowledge of EHR systems, Salesforce Health Cloud, Zoom for Healthcare, Doxy, Bluestream, or comparable telehealth/EHR systems
- Prior PE/Venture-backed or high-growth environment experience
APPLY NOW
If you are a product and design leader with a genuine desire to improve patients' lives — whether that comes from a personal connection to the recovery space or a broader passion for high-stakes, high-trust patient experiences — and you're excited to set the vision for, and build, a national virtual care platform, we encourage you to apply.
To apply: Please ensure your resume or cover letter includes a link to a portfolio with at least 3 case studies demonstrating end-to-end product ownership and measurable impact.

Mid Level Design Director Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mid level design director job?
Position yourself around ownership, not just execution. Highlight projects where you made directional decisions, led a creative workstream, or mentored another designer. Tailor your portfolio to show systems thinking and brand consistency across deliverables, not just polished individual pieces. Hiring managers at this level want to see that you reduce ambiguity for a team, so frame your case studies around the problems you defined, not only the work you produced.
Which companies hire mid level design directors?
Companies hiring mid level design directors right now include AEVA, USAA, and MOMENT, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. At this level, hiring covers growth-stage startups building out their first design function and established brands expanding creative leadership below the VP tier.
Are there remote mid level design director jobs?
Yes, remote and hybrid options are common at this level. About 80% of mid level design director openings are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting strong employer demand for experienced designers who can lead creative work asynchronously and communicate direction clearly without daily in-person oversight.
How do I move up to a mid level design director role?
Moving from an entry-level design role into a mid level director position takes deliberate scope expansion. Focus on taking full ownership of discrete projects, volunteering to present creative rationale to stakeholders, and building fluency in design systems and brand strategy, not just craft. Measurable impact matters: document how your work affected campaign performance, product engagement, or team output. Employers use these signals to distinguish candidates ready to lead from those still executing under close direction.
Which industries hire the most mid level design directors?
Mid Level design director roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Construction & Real Estate, and Banking & Financial Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. These sectors tend to drive hiring at this level because they maintain large enough creative functions to need dedicated directional leadership below the executive tier, while still moving fast enough to value designers who can own output independently.
