Mid Level Design Manager Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mid level design manager job?
Position your existing work around ownership and decision-making, not just execution. Highlight projects where you led the design direction, collaborated cross-functionally, or mentored others. Tailor your portfolio to show measurable outcomes, not just deliverables. Recruiters at this level want evidence that you can operate with less hand-holding, so make that independence visible in every application.
Which companies hire mid level design managers?
Companies hiring mid level design managers right now include Amazon, Meltwater, and JPMorganChase, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Both growing startups and established enterprises hire at this level, often to build out design functions or scale existing teams with experienced individual contributors ready to take on leadership responsibilities.
Are there remote mid level design manager jobs?
Yes, remote and hybrid options are widely available at this experience level. About 44% of mid level design manager openings are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how design work has shifted across distributed teams. Filtering by work arrangement on Migrate Mate lets you narrow openings to the setup that fits your situation.
How do I move up to a mid level design manager role?
The path from entry level to mid level is built on deepening craft and expanding ownership over time. Focus on moving from executing tasks to driving decisions on projects, seeking feedback actively, and taking initiative on work that has real team impact. Mentoring peers, owning a feature or workstream, and building a portfolio of outcomes rather than outputs are what signal readiness for mid level responsibilities.
