About Prime Data Centers
Prime Data Centers develops, acquires, and operates data centers for some of the world's largest enterprises. A private firm owned by a group controlling $6 billion in assets, with a 15-year tenure in technology and real estate development, Prime provides customers with ownership options and dynamic leasing models, defining a true corporate partnership.
About the role
Prime Data Centers is seeking a highly accomplished Director of Technical Training and Development to lead the evolution, execution, and continuous improvement of our critical facilities training platform.
This is a unique opportunity to elevate an existing but still-maturing function within a fast-growing organization. The successful candidate will serve as a senior leader responsible for taking Prime's current training program and building it into an excellent, scalable operating model — establishing the standards, processes, and team capabilities that enable Prime's long-term growth. Initially operating in a player-coach capacity, this role will combine hands-on training leadership with organizational development, helping transform Prime's existing training program into a scalable, high-performing function.

Why This Role Matters
This role is foundational to Prime's next phase of growth. As the company expands its hyperscale and AI-ready data center portfolio, the Director of Technical Training and Development will be responsible for taking Prime's existing training foundation and building the systems, standards, and team capabilities that enable predictable, scalable workforce readiness across multiple sites and regions.
This leader will help transform training delivery from site-by-site, ad hoc execution into a repeatable, excellent operating model — ensuring Prime can continue to grow while maintaining safety, quality, and operational excellence.
Qualifications
Training Execution & Delivery
- Own end-to-end training execution across all sites — from onboarding through advanced certification and ongoing proficiency.
- Ensure training aligns with Prime's MOP/SOP/EOP standards, customer requirements, and regulatory requirements.
- Serve as an escalation point for complex training and workforce-readiness issues, making risk-informed decisions that balance operational continuity with training quality.
Team & Curriculum Leadership
- Lead training delivery across Electrical, Mechanical, Safety & Compliance, Procedural (MOP/SOP/EOP), and Leadership/Soft-Skills disciplines.
- Oversee curriculum development and integration; formalize training standards, competency criteria, and governance to close existing gaps and support scalability.
Cross-Functional & Vendor Leadership
- Serve as the primary training interface across Operations, Engineering, EHS, HR, and Site/Executive Leadership, translating technical needs into clear training plans.
- Partner with site teams to identify skill gaps and remove roadblocks.
- Manage third-party training vendors, certification bodies, and LMS providers — setting clear scopes, deliverables, and accountability for quality, schedule, and budget.
Program Development & Operational Excellence
- Evaluate Prime's current training program end-to-end and design delivery models, review processes, and governance frameworks to elevate it.
- Build repeatable standards, workflows, and certification playbooks; introduce program-level planning, forecasting, and reporting.
- Drive continuous improvement to increase efficiency, predictability, and quality as the workforce grows.
Organizational Leadership
- Build and scale the Training & Development function: team structure, hiring plans, and career paths.
- Recruit, coach, and develop high-performing leaders and ICs.
- Lead as a hands-on player-coach while building scalable organizational capability.
Required
- Significant leadership experience within training, learning & development, or workforce development organizations.
- Experience delivering or improving training programs for complex mission-critical, data center, hyperscale, industrial, or large-scale operational environments.
- Proven success leading multidisciplinary training teams and coordinating across multiple functions and regions.
- Strong understanding of critical power systems, cooling infrastructure, safety protocols, and operational procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent training initiatives and competing priorities.
- Extensive experience managing training vendors, certification bodies, and external delivery partners.
- Strong business acumen and ability to balance speed, quality, risk, and workforce readiness.
- Exceptional communication, executive presence, and stakeholder management skills.
- Comfortable operating in fast-paced, high-growth environments with evolving priorities.
- Willingness and ability to travel 20–40% of the time, including overnight travel, to Prime's regional site.
Preferred
- Experience delivering training for hyperscale, colocation, mission-critical, or campus-scale operations.
- Experience supporting AI-ready and high-density computing environments.
- Demonstrated success improving and scaling existing teams, organizations, processes, and operating models — not just building from a blank slate.
- Experience working within a rapidly growing developer, operator, owner, or technology organization.
- CDCP®, CDCS®, or CDFOM® (EPI/Data Center Institute), Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD, ATD), NFPA 70E qualified trainer, or equivalent industry credentials preferred.
Leadership Attributes We Value
- Builder mindset with a passion for improving systems, teams, and scalable processes.
- Bias for action and pragmatic execution.

- High ownership mentality with accountability for outcomes rather than activities.
- Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
- Collaborative leader who builds trust through clarity, follow-through, and results.
- Motivated by creating lasting organizational impact and enabling long-term growth.

Development Director Jobs in San Jose: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a development director job in San Jose?
The strongest path into a development director role in San Jose runs through the city's dense nonprofit sector, major healthcare systems, and the fundraising arms of tech-adjacent institutions concentrated downtown and in the Willow Glen and Almaden areas. Candidates who bring a portfolio of major gifts campaigns, corporate partnerships, or foundation grant wins stand out. Experience with Silicon Valley donor networks gives a meaningful edge in this market.
Which companies hire development directors in San Jose?
San Jose development director roles are posted by AMD, Adobe, and Alpha Public Schools and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. The local market includes a mix of established nonprofits, regional healthcare networks, and technology companies with corporate social responsibility or foundation arms headquartered in or near the city.
Are there remote development director jobs in San Jose?
Yes, though remote availability depends heavily on the role's focus. Development director positions centered on donor relationships, event leadership, or community partnerships tend to require an on-site presence, while grant writing and strategy roles offer more flexibility. About 46% of development director openings tied to San Jose are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with hybrid arrangements most common among larger tech-affiliated nonprofits in North San Jose.
How can I get a development director job in San Jose with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in San Jose is through a development associate or major gifts officer role at one of the city's mid-size nonprofits or university-affiliated foundations, where smaller teams give early exposure to the full fundraising cycle. Volunteering with organizations like United Way Bay Area or local arts and health nonprofits builds both skills and the donor relationships that San Jose employers value. A record of meeting campaign goals, even at smaller scale, carries weight here.
Which industries hire the most development directors in San Jose?
Most development director openings in San Jose sit in Education, Waste Management & Environmental Services, and Technology & Software, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. San Jose's role as both a major tech hub and a regional center for healthcare and social services drives consistent demand across those sectors, with nonprofits tied to education and community services adding a steady share of openings.
