Development Manager Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a development manager job in Chicago?
Target Chicago's strongest hiring sectors: technology firms in Fulton Market, financial services companies in the Loop, large nonprofits and healthcare systems on the North Side, and real estate developers active citywide. Candidates who stand out typically combine project delivery experience with stakeholder management skills. Familiarity with Chicago's dense civic and corporate networks, and a history of cross-functional work in a Chicago-scale organization, gives a real edge in this market.
Which companies hire development managers in Chicago?
Chicago development manager roles are posted by Logic, Huron Consulting, and Shamrock Trading Corporation and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Chicago's mix of Fortune 500 headquarters, mid-size tech firms, mission-driven nonprofits, and active commercial real estate developers makes it one of the more diverse hiring markets for this role in the Midwest.
Are there remote development manager jobs in Chicago?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the type of work: analytical and software-focused development manager roles tend to support remote arrangements, while roles tied to construction, facilities, or in-person program delivery are typically on-site. About 77% of development manager openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of September 2026. Tech and nonprofit fundraising roles in Chicago are the most likely to offer flexible arrangements.
How can I get a development manager job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Chicago is moving up from a coordinator or analyst role within the same organization, particularly at the city's large nonprofits, university development offices, or mid-size technology companies. Chicago's dense nonprofit sector regularly promotes internally, and roles like development associate or project coordinator at organizations in the Loop or Lincoln Park often serve as direct pipelines. Building relationships through local professional associations and Chicago-based alumni networks accelerates the transition.
Which industries hire the most development managers in Chicago?
Chicago development manager roles concentrate in Manufacturing, Technology & Software, and Transportation & Logistics, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Chicago's status as a national hub for financial services, a growing tech corridor in Fulton Market, and one of the largest nonprofit sectors in the country all drive consistent demand for this role across the city.
