Senior Level Director Of Data Governance Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a senior level director of data governance job?
Employers at this level look for candidates who have led enterprise-wide data governance programs, not just contributed to them. Demonstrating ownership of data quality frameworks, regulatory compliance initiatives, and cross-departmental policy adoption gives candidates a clear edge. Experience mentoring junior data stewards and presenting governance metrics to executive stakeholders signals the leadership maturity these roles require.
Which companies hire senior level director of data governances?
Companies hiring senior level director of data governances right now include Citi, Booz Allen Hamilton, and MUFG, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level tends to come from large enterprises and regulated-industry organizations where data governance is a board-level priority, not an emerging function.
Are there remote senior level director of data governance jobs?
Yes, though availability varies by employer and industry. About 35% of senior level director of data governance openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, making this one of the more location-flexible leadership roles in data. Organizations with distributed data teams often prefer candidates who can govern programs and align stakeholders across multiple locations without requiring a daily on-site presence.
What makes a director of data governance role senior level?
Senior level director of data governance roles are defined by enterprise-wide scope and independent ownership. Rather than executing programs designed by others, senior directors set the governance strategy, own accountability for data quality and compliance outcomes, and lead teams of data stewards or analysts. They also drive alignment across legal, technology, and business units and are expected to mentor less experienced governance professionals.
Which industries hire the most senior level director of data governances?
Senior Level director of data governance roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Consulting & Professional Services, and Investment & Asset Management, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive the most hiring because they operate under strict data privacy regulations, manage complex multi-system data environments, and face regulatory pressure that elevates governance from a back-office function to a strategic priority.
