The Director leads innovation pipeline development, environmental scanning, pilot design, and cross-sector collaboration efforts that strengthen UWTC’s role as a nonprofit capacity-building and innovation leader.
The Director champions a culture of creativity, experimentation, adaptive learning, and human-centered problem-solving while supporting nonprofit organizations and community stakeholders with innovation frameworks, strategic insight, and implementation support.

Innovation Ecosystem & Capacity Building
- Champion a culture of creativity, experimentation, learning, and adaptive thinking throughout UWTC and the broader nonprofit community.

Tips for Your Director Of Innovation Job Search
Quantify transformation outcomes on your resume
Directors of innovation are hired to produce measurable change, so your resume needs hard outcomes: revenue generated from new products, speed-to-market improvements, or cost reductions from process redesigns. Generic claims about 'driving innovation' won't stand out.
Build a portfolio of launched initiatives
Unlike most senior roles, hiring panels for innovation directors want to see what you actually shipped. Document two or three initiatives from concept to deployment, showing your role at each stage, the obstacles you cleared, and the result the organization kept.
Target companies mid-transformation not post-transformation
You'll compete hardest for roles at companies that have already built their innovation function. Search for organizations that recently announced a digital or product strategy shift, a new innovation lab, or a leadership vacancy, because that's where the real mandate exists.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists director of innovation openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare a strategic narrative not a job history
Innovation director interviews rarely follow a linear resume walkthrough. Interviewers want to hear how you diagnose organizational stagnation and design a path forward. Practice telling a single coherent story across your career that shows a consistent methodology, not a collection of past jobs.
Negotiate scope before you negotiate compensation
Innovation roles often have titles without authority. Before accepting an offer, confirm your reporting line, budget ownership, and whether you have a seat in strategic planning. A role without those levers will stall your impact regardless of what the job description promised.
Director Of Innovation Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most director of innovations?
The companies hiring the most director of innovations right now include Resource Innovations, Onto Innovation, and American Credit Acceptance, with the largest share of openings in Texas, Massachusetts, and New York, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is consistently strongest in healthcare systems, large technology firms, and financial services organizations actively investing in digital transformation.
How many director of innovation jobs are remote?
About 12% of director of innovation openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, making it one of the more location-flexible executive roles available. Sub-areas like digital product strategy, technology scouting, and innovation consulting tend to offer the highest remote availability, while roles tied to physical R&D labs or manufacturing facilities are more likely to require on-site presence.
How do you become a director of innovation?
Most directors of innovation build their path by leading smaller innovation projects at the manager or senior manager level, demonstrating a repeatable process for moving ideas from concept to execution. Developing fluency in design thinking and agile frameworks, earning a record of launched products or transformation programs, and building cross-functional leadership experience across product, technology, and strategy are the practical steps that move candidates into consideration for director-level roles.
Can you get hired as a director of innovation without direct innovation leadership experience?
Yes, but you need to reframe adjacent experience in terms hiring panels actually use. Senior program managers, heads of product, and strategy consultants regularly transition into innovation director roles by emphasizing outcomes like new revenue streams created, processes redesigned, or new capabilities built. Framing your work around organizational change rather than functional management is what bridges the gap on paper.
What does the director of innovation interview process look like?
The process typically involves an initial screen with HR or a talent partner, followed by a strategic case or presentation where you diagnose a real or hypothetical innovation challenge the organization faces. Subsequent rounds usually include interviews with the executive team and key cross-functional stakeholders. Many companies also ask for a short framework document or innovation roadmap proposal before a final offer conversation.
