Tips for Your Director Of National Accounts Job Search
Quantify revenue and portfolio scope
Your resume needs to show the actual size of the accounts you managed and the revenue you influenced. Hiring managers for this role look past titles and straight to scale, so name the dollar value of portfolios and year-over-year growth you drove.
Tailor your resume to the industry vertical
A director of national accounts resume built for CPG reads differently than one for SaaS or medical devices. Swap out terminology, name the relevant retailer or channel partners for that vertical, and mirror the language in the job posting before you apply.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists director of national accounts openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Highlight cross-functional leadership without a direct team
Many director of national accounts roles require coordinating sales, marketing, operations, and finance without formal authority over those teams. Your resume should show specific examples of influencing cross-functional groups to close deals or retain accounts.
Prepare a business review presentation for interviews
Hiring panels for this role often ask you to present a mock quarterly business review or account growth plan. Walking in with a polished example, even a sanitized one from a past employer, signals you already operate at the level they're hiring for.
Negotiate using total compensation, not base alone
Director of national accounts offers almost always include variable comp tied to account retention or revenue thresholds. Before accepting, get clarity on how the variable is calculated, what percentage of reps hit target, and whether there's a cap on commission.
Director Of National Accounts Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most director of national accountss?
The most active employers for director of national accountss right now are CVS Health, AECOM, and Rehrig Pacific Company, and the most openings are in Texas, Georgia, and Illinois, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Industries with the highest concentration of openings include consumer goods, healthcare, and technology distribution.
How many director of national accounts jobs are remote?
About 74% of director of national accounts openings are fully remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the travel-heavy nature of the role. Strategic account planning, internal reporting, and partner communication functions tend to be most remote-compatible, while field-based retailer meetings and joint business plan presentations typically require in-person presence.
How do you become a director of national accounts?
Most people reach this role by building a foundation in field sales or regional account management, then moving into a key account or national account manager position where they handle high-revenue clients independently. From there, consistently growing account revenue, leading cross-functional initiatives, and demonstrating you can manage executive-level relationships positions you for a director title. Industry expertise in a specific vertical accelerates that path.
Can you get hired as a director of national accounts without direct experience in the role?
Yes, candidates coming from senior regional account manager or key account manager roles get hired into director of national accounts positions regularly, especially if they can demonstrate they've already been doing the work. The strongest applications from less traditional backgrounds show measurable account growth, experience coordinating across business functions, and familiarity with the industry's major retail or distribution channels.
What does the director of national accounts interview process look like?
The process typically includes an initial screen with a recruiter or HR contact, followed by a structured interview with the hiring manager focused on account management scenarios and past revenue results. Later rounds often involve a panel with sales leadership, marketing, or category management teams, and it's common to be asked to present a business review, a 30-60-90 day plan, or a mock account growth strategy before a final offer is extended.
Where can I find and apply to director of national accounts jobs?
You can find and apply to director of national accounts jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search for roles that match your industry background and experience level, then apply directly to each listing that fits.
