The IT Collaboration and Productivity Engineering team builds and runs the collaboration and productivity platforms that power how Pinployees communicate, share information, and get work done. We own core SaaS platforms such as Google Workspace, O365, Gemini, Jira, Confluence, Slack, and other collaboration, productivity, and AI tools, and partner closely with Security, People, Legal, and Engineering to design secure, reliable, and intuitive experiences.
- Own third‑party AI tools connectivity end‑to‑end – act as the primary technical authority for how external AI tools authenticate to Pinterest, where their traffic flows, what internal data they reach, and how we keep that boundary secure, spanning OAuth 2.0/2.1 and OIDC, MCP connectors and registries, SAML federation, mTLS, IP allowlisting, and edge/ingress routing (Envoy).
- Design and evolve the AI integration architecture – define standards, guardrails, and reusable patterns so onboarding each new AI vendor is fast, consistent, and secure by default rather than a bespoke effort.
- Build and own custom MCP servers – develop and operate the connectors that expose internal tools (Slack, Google Workspace, Atlassian, and more), including building new features as internal tools and AI use cases evolve, and integrating AI tools into Pinterest's skill registry.
- Lead incident response and complex, cross‑system troubleshooting for high‑impact integration issues, driving root‑cause analysis, long‑term fixes, and learning‑oriented postmortems in partnership with Security, Networking, and vendors.
- Build automation and integrations using scripting (e.g., Python, Go, TypeScript, or similar) and platform/tool APIs and SDKs to streamline connector lifecycle, configuration as code, and health/usage monitoring.
- Integrate AI tools with identity, security, and IT workflows (e.g., SSO/IdP, SCIM, DLP, logging, ITSM) in close collaboration with Security and other infrastructure teams.
- Use AI as a force multiplier for your work — for example, using AI assistants to draft code, configuration templates, tests, documentation, or runbooks — while validating outputs through tests, dry‑runs, and peer review, and maintaining full ownership of the final results.
- Lead cross‑functional projects such as new AI tools onboarding, secure transport/tunnel deployments, connector migrations, and integration‑standard rollouts from design through production.
- Mentor and uplevel other engineers by reviewing designs and implementations, sharing best practices, and providing clear guidance aligned to Role Expectations Guides (REGs), leveling criteria, and Pinterest competencies.
- Represent the team with stakeholders across the company and with external vendor engineering teams, translating business needs into durable technical solutions, communicating trade‑offs, and ensuring decisions reflect "Act as one" and "Create belonging" for our global workforce.
What we're looking for
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant hands‑on ownership of building and operating production services or platform integrations in a medium‑to‑large environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong programming skills in one or more backend languages (e.g., Python, Go, Java, TypeScript/Node) and solid software design and architecture ability — designing APIs and backend services, choosing appropriate abstractions, and building for maintainability, testability, and extension.
- Deep, hands‑on expertise in authentication and authorization — OAuth 2.0/2.1, OIDC, SAML, token exchange, PKCE — and the failure modes that come with them.
- Strong systems design and troubleshooting skills, including debugging issues that span clients, network, identity, edge/ingress (Envoy or similar), and backend services.
- Experience building and integrating with APIs and services — REST/RPC, webhooks, and SDKs — including connectors against SaaS/tool APIs (Slack, Google Workspace, Atlassian, or comparable).
- Grounding in engineering quality practices: automated testing, code review, CI/CD, observability, and safe production rollout.
- Familiarity with the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and the emerging AI‑connector/gateway ecosystem, and with security, privacy, and compliance controls relevant to external integrations (SSO/SCIM, DLP, access reviews). Kubernetes/EKS and infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform) a plus.
- Proven use of AI tools to speed up engineering work (e.g., generating code, tests, runbooks, or summaries), with a clear approach to validating outputs, reducing bias, and protecting reliability and security.
- Track record of operating at a staff‑level scope: leading large, complex initiatives, shaping cross‑team roadmaps, and owning impactful outcomes.
- Ability to lead and mentor other engineers, give clear technical direction, and partner effectively with managers, product owners, and stakeholders.
- Comfort working across diverse teams and locations, consistently modeling Pinterest's values: putting Pinners and Pinployees first, aiming for high quality, acting as one team, and approaching challenges with a "win or learn" mindset.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as an AI Engineer
Frame your degree for specialty occupation
Your Australian bachelor's degree must map directly to AI engineering work. A three-year computer science or mathematics degree is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree, but be ready to show your transcript if a consular officer asks.
Target employers with active LCA history
Search DOL's Foreign Labor Application Gateway for certified LCAs in AI, machine learning, and data science job titles. Employers who've filed recently are already familiar with the E-3 visa process and won't need convincing that sponsorship is viable.
Clarify your role qualifies before accepting
Not every AI Engineer title triggers specialty occupation status. If your job description mixes AI work with general software duties and doesn't require a degree in a specific field, your LCA could be challenged. Nail down the core duties with your employer before the offer is signed.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service end-to-end
Once you have an offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork. The LCA must be certified by DOL before your consulate appointment, and getting the wage level and job title right the first time avoids costly delays.
Prepare for wage level scrutiny in AI roles
AI Engineer roles often attract DOL wage Level III or IV classifications due to the specialized nature of the work. Confirm with your employer that the offered salary meets the prevailing wage for your job site location before the LCA is submitted.
Time your consulate appointment around project starts
The E-3 has no cap, so you can apply any time of year. Book your consulate appointment in Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth as soon as your LCA is certified. Appointment wait times vary by location, so building three to six weeks of buffer before your start date reduces scheduling risk.
E-3 Visa AI Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find AI Engineer jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals seeking U.S. roles with E-3 sponsorship. You can search AI Engineer positions filtered by employers who have filed E-3 or H-1B visa LCAs, so you're targeting companies that have already demonstrated willingness to sponsor work visas rather than cold-applying and hoping sponsorship comes up later.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an AI Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
AI Engineer roles generally qualify because they require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field like computer science, machine learning, or electrical engineering. The key test is whether the position normally requires a degree in that specific discipline. Roles that accept any degree regardless of field, or that mix AI work with general project management duties, are harder to support under the specialty occupation standard.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for AI Engineers in the U.S.?
The E-3 is available only to Australian nationals, but that exclusivity is an advantage. There's no lottery, no cap pressure, and you can apply at any time of year. The H-1B runs through an annual lottery with roughly a one-in-four selection chance for most registrants. For an Australian AI Engineer with a qualifying offer, the E-3 is a direct path that the H-1B simply isn't.
Can I switch AI Engineer employers while on an E-3?
Yes, but you need a new LCA certified for the new employer before you start working. Your E-3 status is tied to the sponsoring employer, not to you personally. If you're changing roles within the same company or moving to a different employer, the new LCA must be filed and certified by DOL, and ideally you'd have a new E-3 visa stamp if the role change is significant.
