E-3 Visa School Social Worker Jobs
School Social Worker roles in U.S. public and private schools qualify as E-3 specialty occupations, requiring a relevant bachelor's degree and a job offer with E-3 visa sponsorship. The E-3 has no lottery and no annual cap, making it far more predictable than the H-1B for Australian social work professionals.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a School Social Worker
Verify your Australian degree meets requirements
U.S. school districts require a bachelor's degree in social work or a closely related field. A three-year Australian BSW is generally accepted as equivalent, but get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved evaluator before you apply.
Obtain state licensure before job searching
Most U.S. states require a Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed School Social Worker credential. Research the specific license your target state requires and start the application early, as reciprocity with Australian qualifications varies significantly by state.
Target school districts with prior E-3 or H-1B filing history
Districts that have previously sponsored international teachers or school counselors understand the LCA filing process. Search DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data to identify districts with active foreign worker sponsorship records in your target region.
Address the LCA prevailing wage requirement upfront
Your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL certifying your offered wage meets the prevailing rate for school social workers in that area. Raise this with HR during offer negotiations so the LCA filing doesn't delay your start date.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the paperwork
Once you have a signed offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork end-to-end. This keeps your employer's administrative burden low, which matters when HR departments at smaller school districts have no in-house immigration experience.
Time your consulate appointment around the school calendar
School districts need you present before the academic year starts, typically late July or August. Book your Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth consulate appointment well ahead of that window, since appointment availability can run four to eight weeks out during peak periods.

Find School Social Worker JobsSchool Social Worker E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find School Social Worker jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Use Migrate Mate to search School Social Worker roles where employers are open to E-3 sponsorship. Many school districts don't advertise sponsorship explicitly but will sponsor qualified Australian candidates once they understand the E-3 requires no lottery and places minimal burden on the employer compared to other work visa categories.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a School Social Worker role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes. School Social Worker positions qualify as E-3 specialty occupations because they normally require a bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or a closely related field. Districts that accept candidates without a relevant degree or accept any bachelor's degree regardless of field may not meet the specialty occupation standard, so confirm the job description specifically requires a relevant degree before proceeding.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Australian School Social Workers?
The E-3 is available exclusively to Australian nationals and has no annual cap or lottery, so you can apply any time of year and your employer gets certainty from the start. The H-1B has an annual cap of 65,000 slots with a competitive lottery, meaning most applicants wait years or are never selected. For school social workers, the E-3 is the practical path.
Can I change school district employers while on an E-3?
Yes, but each new employer must file a fresh LCA with the DOL and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp if you travel internationally before the new employer's petition is in place. You can start working for the new district once their LCA is certified and your new visa documentation is in order, so coordinate timing carefully to avoid any gap in authorization.
