Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Special Ed Teacher
Get your credentials evaluated before applying
U.S. school districts require state teaching licensure, and your Australian qualifications need a credential evaluation first. Submit your transcripts to a NACES-approved evaluator so districts can confirm your degree meets their state's special education licensing requirements.
Target districts with established LCA filing history
Public school districts in states with teacher shortages, including Arizona, Texas, and Florida, regularly file Labor Condition Applications for specialty education roles. Search DOL's FLAG portal to identify districts that have previously sponsored international teachers on E-3 or H-1B status.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service after your offer
Once a district signs your offer letter, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork. This keeps the process clean for HR teams unfamiliar with international teacher sponsorship and reduces the risk of filing errors that delay your start date.
Confirm the district can act as your E-3 employer
Charter schools and private special education providers sometimes lack the HR infrastructure to file an LCA with DOL. Ask directly whether they have experience sponsoring visa holders before investing time in the interview process.
Time your application around the school hiring calendar
U.S. districts post special education vacancies between January and April for August starts. Submitting your LCA in that window gives you enough time to schedule your consulate appointment in Australia before the school year begins.

Find Special Ed Teacher JobsSpecial Ed Teacher E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Special Ed Teacher jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you filter Special Ed Teacher roles by employers with active E-3 visa sponsorship history, so you're not cold-applying to districts that have never sponsored international staff. Most general job boards don't surface sponsorship data at all, which means you waste time on roles that will never move forward for an Australian candidate.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Special Ed Teacher role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3 visa?
Yes, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in special education, education with a special education concentration, or a closely related field. Roles that accept any degree or list the degree as preferred rather than required may not satisfy the specialty occupation standard. Your offer letter and the district's job description both need to reflect a specific degree requirement.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Australian special education teachers?
The E-3 has no annual cap and no lottery, so your sponsorship isn't subject to random selection. H-1B petitions for cap-subject employers enter a lottery each March, and teachers at public school districts are typically cap-subject. With E-3, a district can file your LCA with DOL and proceed directly to your consulate appointment without waiting for a lottery result.
Can I switch school districts while on an E-3 visa?
You can change employers, but the new district must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need to apply for a new E-3 visa at an Australian consulate before starting work. There's no portability provision like some other visa categories, so plan your transition carefully to avoid a gap between the end of one role and the start of another.
