Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a High School Teacher
Get your credentials evaluated before applying
U.S. school districts require foreign degree equivalency verification. Use a NACES-approved evaluation service to confirm your Australian teaching qualification meets the bachelor's degree standard the E-3 visa specialty occupation definition requires.
Target states with active teacher shortages
States including Texas, Arizona, and Florida actively recruit international teachers and have established pathways for foreign-trained educators. Districts in shortage-designated subject areas like STEM and special education are far more motivated to sponsor E-3 visas.
Confirm your subject area creates a specialty occupation
Not every teaching role automatically qualifies. Your offer letter must show the position specifically requires a degree in your subject discipline. A general classroom aide role won't qualify, but a credentialed math or science teacher position typically will.
Ask your employer about state licensure before the LCA
Most states require a teaching license before you can start work, and some districts won't file your LCA until you have a provisional license in hand. Clarify the licensing timeline with HR early so it doesn't delay your DOL filing.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for your LCA and paperwork
The Labor Condition Application must be DOL-certified before your visa interview. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service handles the LCA submission, visa documentation, and consulate preparation so nothing stalls your school-year start date.
Time your application around the academic hiring calendar
U.S. districts post most positions between January and April for August start dates. Submitting your application and initiating sponsorship conversations during this window gives your employer enough lead time to complete the DOL and consulate steps.
E-3 Visa High School Teacher: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find High School Teacher jobs with E-3 sponsorship?
Search Migrate Mate to filter High School Teacher openings by employers who have sponsored E-3 visas before. General job boards don't filter by visa type, so you risk spending time on applications at districts that have never sponsored an international teacher. Migrate Mate surfaces roles where sponsorship is already part of the hiring conversation.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a High School Teacher role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the position requires a bachelor's degree in a specific subject area such as mathematics, science, English, or history. The specialty occupation standard is met when the role demands theoretical and practical application of a body of specialized knowledge. Generalist or aide positions that accept any bachelor's degree typically don't qualify.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Australian teachers?
The E-3 is significantly more practical for Australian teachers than the H-1B visa. There's no lottery, no annual cap, and you can apply directly at a U.S. consulate in Australia without USCIS filing a petition first. H-1B visa selection is random and annual, meaning a qualifying teacher can go three or more years without being selected.
Can I switch school districts or states while on an E-3 visa?
Yes, but your new employer must file a fresh LCA and you'll need an updated visa or amended status before starting work. Moving to a different state may also require a new state teaching license, which can take several months. Plan the licensing and LCA steps concurrently to avoid a gap between your old and new positions.
