Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Clinical Assistant Professor
Translate your Australian credentials for U.S. hiring
U.S. academic search committees expect a curriculum vitae structured around teaching evaluations, grant funding, and publications. Reformat yours to match these conventions before applying, since a standard Australian CV layout can stall shortlisting at research-intensive institutions.
Target departments with active clinical training programs
Clinical assistant professor positions tied to patient care or simulation labs are more consistently classified as specialty occupations by DOL, which strengthens your E-3 LCA. Focus applications on health professions schools and medical schools with established clinical curricula.
Confirm the LCA is employer-filed before signing
Your offer letter should confirm the university's HR or legal team will file the Labor Condition Application with DOL before your consulate appointment. If it doesn't, ask explicitly, since some departments mistakenly assume you handle it.
Time your application around the academic hiring cycle
Most U.S. universities post clinical faculty positions between August and December for roles starting the following academic year. Submitting outside this window means competing for a much smaller pool of mid-year vacancies, which often fill without a full search process.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for your paperwork
Once you have an offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork end-to-end. This keeps the process on track between your start date and your Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth consulate appointment.
Clarify teaching versus research duties in your offer letter
If your role is split between clinical instruction and independent research, confirm the job description explicitly states both duties. USCIS and consular officers assess specialty occupation on the documented role, not how you describe it verbally at interview.

Find Clinical Assistant Professor JobsClinical Assistant Professor E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Clinical Assistant Professor jobs that offer E-3 sponsorship?
Search Migrate Mate to filter Clinical Assistant Professor openings by employers with E-3 sponsorship history. University positions in health professions schools and academic medical centers are the most common source of sponsored clinical faculty roles for Australian nationals, and filtering by sponsorship history saves significant time during the search.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Clinical Assistant Professor roles?
The E-3 is available only to Australian citizens and has no lottery, no annual cap, and no filing season. H-1B requires entering a randomised lottery with roughly a one-in-four selection chance, and losing means waiting another year. For Australians in clinical academia, the E-3 is a direct path that bypasses that uncertainty entirely.
Does a university need to prove it couldn't find a U.S. candidate before sponsoring me?
No. The E-3 does not require a PERM labour market test, which means your employer doesn't need to advertise the role extensively or document recruitment outcomes before filing. The university only needs to certify the role meets prevailing wage standards through the DOL Labor Condition Application process.
Can I hold an E-3 if my Clinical Assistant Professor appointment is part-time or non-tenure-track?
Yes, but the role still needs to meet the specialty occupation definition, which requires a specific bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field. Part-time appointments are permitted under E-3 rules, though your consular officer will scrutinise whether the position constitutes genuine employment rather than a token affiliation.
