Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as an Instructional Assistant
Align your degree to the role description
Your Australian teaching or education degree must match the Instructional Assistant position's stated requirements. If the job posting lists 'bachelor's preferred' rather than 'required,' the role may not qualify as a specialty occupation under E-3 visa rules.
Target school districts with E-Verify enrollment
Public school districts and university systems that are already enrolled in E-Verify are significantly more familiar with employment authorization requirements. Search for districts advertising roles with work authorization support rather than cold-pitching sponsorship to unfamiliar HR teams.
Request the LCA before accepting an offer
Your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before your consulate appointment can proceed. Confirm the district's HR team understands this step early, since many education employers have processed E-3s before but may need a timeline reminder.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the paperwork
School district HR teams often handle payroll, not immigration filings. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to manage the LCA, visa documentation, and consulate preparation so neither you nor your employer's HR team is navigating the process without support.
Get your Australian credentials formally evaluated
A three-year Australian bachelor's degree in education is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree, but some school districts request a formal credential evaluation. Having a USCIS-recognized evaluation ready removes a common delay during the offer stage.
Clarify your E-3 status during contract negotiations
School employment often follows academic-year contracts. Make sure your E-3 approval timeline aligns with the district's start date, since USCIS processing and consulate appointment availability can add weeks between offer and your first day.
E-3 Visa Instructional Assistant: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Instructional Assistant jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the recommended tool for finding Instructional Assistant roles where employers are open to E-3 sponsorship. Many school districts and university systems have sponsored E-3 visas before but don't advertise it explicitly. Searching specifically for education employers with work authorization support, rather than general job boards, significantly narrows the field to realistic sponsoring employers.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000â$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an Instructional Assistant role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field like education, special education, or child development. Roles where the employer accepts any degree or lists a degree as preferred rather than required are harder to qualify. The degree-to-job-duty alignment is what USCIS evaluates, so a well-drafted offer letter that specifies the degree requirement is essential.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Instructional Assistant roles?
The E-3 is available exclusively to Australian citizens and has no lottery, no annual cap, and no wait for a selection round. H-1B visa applicants compete in a lottery with roughly a one-in-four selection rate. For an Australian professional, the E-3 is the faster and more predictable path, with two-year renewable status and a consulate appointment rather than a lengthy USCIS petition process.
Can I change school districts or institutions while on an E-3 visa?
Yes, but you must start the E-3 process fresh with the new employer before your current status expires. The new district must file a new LCA with the DOL, and you'll need updated visa documentation. If you're already inside the U.S., your status is tied to the specific employer listed on your current E-3, so timing the transition carefully matters.
