Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Lecturer
Verify your degree meets specialty occupation requirements
Australian three-year bachelor's degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees for E-3 purposes. Gather your official transcripts and, if your field is niche, a credential evaluation from a NACES-accredited body before applying.
Target universities with active international faculty hiring
Research-intensive universities and community colleges that regularly recruit from overseas are far more familiar with LCA filings than smaller liberal arts schools. Filter your search by institutions that advertise international applicants as welcome in faculty job postings.
Raise E-3 sponsorship early in the offer conversation
Many U.S. hiring departments confuse the E-3 with the H-1B lottery. Clarify upfront that your visa requires no lottery slot and that the LCA filing process through DOL typically certifies within seven business days, reducing the employer's perceived risk.
Use Migrate Mate to handle your LCA and visa paperwork
Once you have a signed offer letter, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to manage the LCA submission, I-129 preparation, and consulate appointment documentation so nothing delays your start date.
Confirm the LCA wage level matches your offered salary
DOL requires the LCA to certify a prevailing wage at or above the rate for your specific role, location, and experience level. Confirm with your department's HR team that the offered salary meets the DOL wage determination before the LCA is submitted.
Prepare a clear nonimmigrant intent response for your interview
Consular officers scrutinize E-3 applicants who are married to U.S. citizens or have pending immigrant petitions. Have a factual, consistent explanation of your ties to Australia and your intention to maintain nonimmigrant status ready before your appointment.

Find Lecturer JobsLecturer E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Lecturer jobs in the U.S. that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search for Lecturer roles where employers are open to E-3 sponsorship. Because university hiring cycles run on academic timelines, you'll also want to search faculty job postings that explicitly welcome international applicants and include H-1B or E-3 sponsorship language in the position description.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Lecturer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3 visa?
Yes. Lecturer positions at accredited U.S. colleges and universities are well-established specialty occupations because the role normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific academic discipline. Your degree must be in a field directly related to the subject you'll be teaching. A marketing degree supporting a sociology lectureship, for example, would require additional justification.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Australian academics seeking a Lecturer role?
The E-3 is significantly more practical for Lecturers than the H-1B. There's no annual lottery, no cap to worry about, and the employer's LCA filing typically certifies within days rather than months. The E-3 renews every two years indefinitely, so a long-term faculty position can be sustained without the uncertainty of H-1B lottery selection each spring.
Can I switch Lecturer positions or move to a new university while on an E-3?
You can change employers on an E-3, but the process starts over with the new institution. Your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need to apply for a new E-3 visa stamp, which typically means returning to a U.S. consulate in Australia or using a third-country appointment. There's no portability provision equivalent to H-1B's AC21.
