E-3 Visa Assistant Professor Jobs
Assistant Professor roles at U.S. universities qualify as E-3 specialty occupations, and academic employers are generally familiar with visa sponsorship for faculty hires. The E-3 has no lottery and no annual cap, so once you have an offer, timing is on your side.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as an Assistant Professor
Translate your Australian credentials for U.S. search committees
U.S. hiring committees evaluate your PhD, publications, and teaching experience against domestic candidates. Frame your research record in field-standard U.S. terms and confirm your Australian degree satisfies the specialty occupation requirement before you apply.
Target universities with active faculty hiring pipelines
R1 and R2 research universities post tenure-track and visiting faculty positions through their HR portals and discipline-specific academic job boards. Search by department and position type, then filter for institutions in states where your field has strong funding.
Ask about the LCA early in salary negotiations
The Labor Condition Application locks in your offered wage at or above the DOL prevailing wage for your role and location. Raise this before your offer letter is finalized so the salary reflects that floor and avoids a DOL compliance issue later.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service after your offer is signed
Once your offer letter is confirmed, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA submission, DS-160, and consulate preparation. Academic HR teams often have no E-3 experience, so having a dedicated filing service prevents avoidable delays.
Find Assistant Professor jobs with E-3 sponsorship on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate surfaces faculty roles at employers with verified E-3 sponsorship history. Filtering by job title and visa type saves you from applying to positions where the institution won't support an E-3 petition.
Clarify your visa status before the campus visit stage
Many search committees don't realize the E-3 doesn't require a lottery or USCIS petition. Addressing this proactively during the phone screen, not at the offer stage, prevents late-stage hesitation from departments unfamiliar with Australian visa options.

Find Assistant Professor JobsAssistant Professor E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I find Assistant Professor jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search Assistant Professor roles specifically filtered for E-3 visa sponsorship, so you're only seeing positions at institutions willing to support your application. Academic job postings often don't advertise visa support explicitly, which makes filtering by sponsorship history especially useful for this role.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does the E-3 visa work differently for faculty positions than for industry roles?
The E-3 requirements are the same, but the application experience differs. Universities handle LCA filing through their HR or general counsel office rather than a dedicated immigration team, which can slow the process. Your role as Assistant Professor must qualify as a specialty occupation, which a position requiring a PhD or equivalent research credential generally satisfies. You'll still need a certified LCA from DOL before your consulate interview.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for an Assistant Professor hire?
For Australian nationals, the E-3 is almost always the better path for faculty roles. There's no lottery and no annual cap, so an E-3 offer can move to a consulate appointment within weeks of LCA certification. H-1B cap-subject positions require lottery selection each April for an October 1 start, which can delay a hire by 12 months or more. Cap-exempt H-1B employers like universities exist, but the E-3 is faster for most faculty appointments.
Can I change institutions after arriving on an E-3?
Yes, but each employer change requires a new LCA and a new E-3 application. Your status is tied to the specific employer and role listed in your petition. If you accept a position at a different institution, you'll need your new employer to file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need to return to a consulate for a new E-3 stamp before starting work there.
