Match your credential to the role
U.S. consular officers assess whether your Australian qualification aligns with the specific subject area you'll teach or administer. A three-year Australian bachelor's degree is generally accepted as equivalent, but ensure your transcript reflects the relevant field of study.
Target institutions with LCA filing history
Universities, K-12 school districts, and education nonprofits that have previously filed Labor Condition Applications are already familiar with the E-3 visa process. Prioritise these employers to avoid spending offer negotiations educating HR about sponsorship mechanics.
Clarify state licensure before your interview
Many K-12 teaching roles require a state-issued teaching certificate, which is a separate requirement from your E-3 visa. Confirm your Australian teaching registration qualifies for reciprocity or a provisional license in your target state before accepting an offer.
Request LCA filing immediately after offer acceptance
The DOL must certify your Labor Condition Application before you can apply at the consulate. Ask your employer to begin LCA filing within days of signing your offer letter so certification doesn't delay your start date or push your consulate appointment past the school year.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the paperwork
Education employers often lack in-house immigration staff. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service handles the LCA, visa paperwork, and consulate preparation end-to-end, so your employer isn't navigating USCIS requirements alone and your application doesn't stall mid-process.
Prepare for nonimmigrant intent questions at the consulate
E-3 visa interviews for education professionals frequently include questions about your intention to return to Australia. Have a clear, honest account of your ties to Australia ready, particularly if you're on a multi-year teaching contract or fellowship.
E-3 Visa Education: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Education jobs in the U.S. that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It surfaces Education roles at employers with active E-3 and LCA filing history, so you're not cold-applying to institutions that have never sponsored a visa. Filter by role type and location to find positions where sponsorship is already part of the hiring process.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Do all Education roles qualify as specialty occupations under the E-3?
Not automatically. The E-3 requires the position to normally demand at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Most university instructor, curriculum designer, and education technology roles meet this standard. General classroom aide or paraprofessional positions typically don't qualify because they don't require a degree in a specific discipline.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Education professionals?
The E-3 is significantly more accessible for Australian education professionals. There's no annual lottery, no registration fee, and the 10,500 annual allocation has never been exhausted. H-1B visa applicants enter a randomised lottery with roughly a 25% selection rate. If you're Australian, the E-3 is the direct path for specialty occupation education roles.
Can I change schools or education employers while on an E-3?
Yes, but your new employer must file a fresh Labor Condition Application with the DOL before you begin work. The E-3 is employer-specific, so you can't simply transfer your existing visa. You'll typically need a new consulate appointment if you're outside the U.S., or a change of status filing if you're already in the country.
