Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Nursing Instructor
Verify your credential equivalency before applying
Australian three-year nursing degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees for E-3 purposes, but academic transcripts and registration history from AHPRA strengthen your case when an employer's HR team is unfamiliar with Australian qualifications.
Target institutions with existing international faculty
Community colleges, nursing schools, and academic medical centers that already employ international faculty are far more likely to understand and initiate E-3 sponsorship. Check faculty pages for Australian or other international names as a practical signal.
Clarify specialty occupation status with your hiring department
Nursing Instructor roles must require a bachelor's degree in a specific field to qualify as a specialty occupation under E-3. Confirm the job description states a nursing or education degree as a requirement, not a preference, before the employer files your LCA with DOL.
Ask about LCA filing timelines before signing an offer
Your employer must file a certified Labor Condition Application with DOL before your visa appointment. DOL certifies LCAs within seven working days under standard processing. Factor this into your start date negotiation so you're not rushing a consulate appointment.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for end-to-end support
Once you have an offer, Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service handles your LCA submission, visa paperwork, and consulate preparation. This is especially useful when your employer has no prior E-3 experience, which is common in smaller nursing programs.
Prepare for nonimmigrant intent questions specific to educators
Consular officers sometimes probe nursing faculty about long-term plans given the academic career trajectory. Have a clear, specific account of your U.S. teaching role, your institution, and your ties to Australia ready before your visa interview.

Find Nursing Instructor JobsNursing Instructor E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Nursing Instructor jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search for Nursing Instructor roles where employers are open to E-3 sponsorship. Standard job boards don't filter by visa type, so you can spend weeks applying to positions where sponsorship was never on the table. Migrate Mate surfaces roles specifically relevant to Australian professionals on the E-3 pathway.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Nursing Instructor role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in nursing, nursing education, or a closely related field. The key requirement is that the degree must be in a specific discipline tied to the job duties, not just any bachelor's degree. Roles at accredited nursing schools and university programs typically meet this standard. If the job description says a degree is preferred rather than required, the specialty occupation threshold is not satisfied.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Nursing Instructor positions?
The E-3 is significantly more practical for Australian nursing educators. The H-1B requires entering an annual lottery with a roughly 25% selection rate, meaning most applicants wait years or never get selected. The E-3 has no lottery, no annual cap in practical terms, and can be filed any time of year once you have a job offer and a certified LCA. The employer's paperwork burden is also lower, which matters when hiring committees at smaller nursing programs weigh whether to proceed.
Can I start a Nursing Instructor job while my E-3 is being processed?
Not unless you're changing status from an existing valid visa that permits work, such as an H-1B or O-1. If you're applying from Australia, you can't start work until your E-3 visa is issued and you've entered the U.S. in E-3 status. The LCA must be certified by DOL and your visa issued by the consulate before your first day. Build at least three to five weeks into your timeline after receiving a job offer to account for LCA certification and your consulate appointment.
