Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Chemistry Professor
Verify your credential equivalency before applying
Australian PhD transcripts and testamurs are accepted by U.S. immigration authorities, but universities often request a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved body. Have this evaluation ready before your first faculty interview to avoid delays.
Target R1 and R2 research universities first
Doctoral research institutions file LCAs regularly for faculty hires and have in-house international office staff who know the E-3 process. Chemistry departments at teaching-focused colleges may be unfamiliar with E-3 sponsorship and require more internal approvals before committing.
Use Migrate Mate to find E-3 sponsoring employers
Migrate Mate surfaces chemistry faculty roles at universities with active E-3 and LCA filing histories, so you're only applying to departments already set up to sponsor Australian nationals rather than educating employers from scratch.
Negotiate the LCA filing into your offer timeline
DOL must certify the LCA before your consulate appointment, which typically takes seven business days. Ask the university's Office of International Affairs to file the LCA within two weeks of your signed offer letter to keep the process on schedule.
Document your specialty occupation link explicitly
A Chemistry Professor role must require at least a bachelor's degree in chemistry or a directly related field. Collect your job posting, department curriculum, and degree requirements in one packet so USCIS can see the connection between your doctorate and the specific courses you'll teach.
Hand the LCA and visa paperwork to a specialist
Faculty offer timelines are tight, and errors in the prevailing wage determination or LCA form stall your start date. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the entire process from offer to consulate appointment, so you can focus on relocation.

Find Chemistry Professor JobsChemistry Professor E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Chemistry Professor jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists chemistry faculty roles at U.S. universities with documented E-3 and LCA filing histories, so you can filter for departments that are already set up to sponsor Australian nationals. Searching this way saves significant time compared to approaching universities that have no experience with the E-3 process and need to build internal approval workflows before making a sponsorship commitment.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Chemistry Professor role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3 visa?
Yes. USCIS consistently treats postsecondary teaching positions in chemistry as specialty occupations because the role theoretically and practically requires at least a bachelor's degree in chemistry or a directly related field. In practice, most tenure-track and lecturer appointments require a doctorate, which strengthens the specialty occupation argument considerably and reduces the risk of a Request for Evidence on that point.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for chemistry faculty positions?
The E-3 has no annual cap and no lottery, so your university can sponsor you at any time of year without waiting for an April registration window. H-1B selection is random and capped at 85,000 per fiscal year, meaning a qualified Chemistry Professor candidate can be locked out for a full year. The E-3 renews in two-year increments without a cap, making it far more predictable for multi-year faculty contracts.
Can I change universities or departments while on an E-3 as a chemistry professor?
Yes, but each new employer must file a fresh LCA certified by DOL before you start work at the new institution. Your E-3 status is tied to the sponsoring university, not to you individually, so a move to a different department within the same university that involves a different position title or wage level also typically triggers a new LCA. Build at least three to four weeks into any transition timeline to allow for DOL certification.
