Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a K 12 Education
Verify your Australian degree is equivalent
A three-year Australian bachelor's degree is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree for E-3 purposes. Get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved evaluator before you start applying, especially for state teaching certification requirements.
Research state teaching certificate reciprocity
Most U.S. states require a valid teaching license before a school can sponsor your E-3 visa. Check whether your Australian teaching registration qualifies for a comparable license in your target state, since requirements vary significantly across all 50 states.
Target private and international schools first
Private and international schools have more direct control over hiring and often move faster on sponsorship decisions than public school districts, which may face procurement rules or union agreements that slow the LCA filing process.
Understand what your employer files and when
Your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before you can proceed with your visa application. The LCA certifies your salary meets the prevailing wage for your role and location, so confirm this step is in your offer timeline.
Use Migrate Mate to manage your E-3 paperwork
Once you have a job offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork end-to-end. This avoids the coordination delays that happen when schools rely on overloaded HR teams unfamiliar with E-3 filings.
Confirm your role meets specialty occupation criteria
Not every K-12 position automatically qualifies as an E-3 specialty occupation. Roles like teacher's aide or instructional assistant may not meet the bachelor's degree requirement, so verify your specific job title and duties satisfy USCIS standards before accepting an offer.

Find K 12 Education JobsK 12 Education E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find K-12 education jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Use Migrate Mate to search K-12 education roles filtered by E-3 visa sponsorship. Most general job boards don't distinguish between visa types, making it hard to identify employers already familiar with the E-3 process. Migrate Mate surfaces roles from employers with active sponsorship history, saving you time filtering out positions where sponsorship isn't an option.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Is the E-3 visa better than the H-1B for Australian teachers?
Yes, for Australian citizens the E-3 is a much more practical path. The H-1B requires entering an annual lottery with limited selection odds, while the E-3 has no lottery and no cap. You can apply at any time of year, renew indefinitely in two-year increments, and typically receive your visa within weeks of your consulate appointment rather than waiting for a fiscal year cycle.
Can a public school district sponsor an E-3 visa for an Australian teacher?
Yes, public school districts can sponsor E-3 visas, but the process often takes longer than private schools. Districts must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL and may require internal approvals before committing to sponsorship. Expect the process to take several weeks from offer acceptance, and raise the sponsorship timeline early in your negotiations to avoid delays.
Does my Australian teaching registration count toward U.S. state certification requirements?
It depends on the state. Some states have reciprocity agreements that allow foreign-trained teachers to obtain a comparable license based on Australian qualifications and experience. Others require passing state-specific exams such as the Praxis before issuing a license. Confirming your certification status early is critical because most schools won't begin E-3 sponsorship until you hold or are eligible for a valid state teaching credential.
