Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Finance Professor
Verify your credentials meet U.S. requirements
Australian three-year bachelor's degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees for E-3 purposes, but a PhD is the de facto standard for tenure-track finance faculty roles. Confirm your credential equivalency before applying.
Request an LCA before your contract is finalized
Your employer files the Labor Condition Application with DOL before your consulate appointment. Confirm the hiring department has initiated this step, since LCA certification is required before you can complete your visa application.
Distinguish your research profile from other candidates
E-3 specialty occupation requires a direct link between your degree field and the role. Finance Professor positions typically require expertise in a specific sub-discipline such as corporate finance, derivatives, or behavioral economics, so make that alignment explicit in your application materials.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to streamline paperwork
Once you have a signed offer letter, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork end-to-end, from DOL filing through consulate preparation, so your start date isn't delayed by administrative back-and-forth.

Find Finance Professor JobsFinance Professor E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Finance Professor jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the recommended way to search for Finance Professor roles with confirmed E-3 sponsorship. Standard job boards don't filter by visa type, so you can spend weeks applying to positions where the employer has never sponsored an international hire. Migrate Mate surfaces roles from employers already familiar with the E-3 process, which saves significant time at the offer stage.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Finance Professor role qualify as an E-3 specialty occupation?
Yes. Finance Professor positions qualify because they require at least a bachelor's degree, typically a PhD, in a specific field such as finance, economics, or accounting. The role must also be classified as requiring that degree theoretically and in practice. Most tenure-track and visiting faculty positions at accredited universities meet this definition without ambiguity.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for university finance faculty?
The E-3 is significantly more practical for Australian academics. There's no lottery, no annual cap, and no wait list. You can apply directly at a U.S. consulate in Australia once your employer obtains a certified LCA from DOL. H-1B requires entering a random lottery with roughly a one-in-four selection rate, adding 12 or more months of uncertainty before any visa is issued.
Can I switch universities while on an E-3 as a Finance Professor?
Yes, but the E-3 is employer-specific. If you accept a position at a different institution, the new university must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need to obtain a new E-3 visa stamp at a U.S. consulate before re-entering, or in some cases complete a change of status through USCIS. You can't simply transfer your existing visa to the new employer.
