Translate your Australian tax credentials
CPA (Australia) and CA ANZ designations are recognized but you'll need to document how your qualification maps to a U.S. bachelor's degree in accounting or taxation. A credential evaluation from a NACES-member agency strengthens your LCA and visa petition.
Target multistate employers with SALT teams
Companies operating across multiple U.S. states need dedicated SALT managers to handle nexus, apportionment, and compliance. Professional services firms, large retailers, and financial institutions are the most consistent hirers for this specialty.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for LCA and paperwork
The LCA must be certified by DOL before your consulate appointment. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork so your start date isn't delayed by filing errors or timing gaps.
Clarify sponsorship willingness before interviews
Many tax employers confuse E-3 sponsorship with H-1B lottery risk. Clarify upfront that the E-3 requires no lottery and that employer costs are limited to the LCA filing and your government visa fee.
Time your consulate appointment around busy season
Tax departments freeze hiring during Q1 filing season. Targeting roles that close in Q2 or Q3 gives you more flexibility to schedule your Australian consulate appointment without conflicting with your new team's peak workload.
Document multistate compliance experience specifically
USCIS and DOL require your role to meet the specialty occupation standard. Your resume and offer letter should explicitly reference state nexus analysis, apportionment methodologies, or audit defense work to support the degree-requirement connection.
E-3 Visa State And Local Tax Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find State and Local Tax Manager jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for E-3-eligible roles. It surfaces employers with active visa sponsorship history so you're not cold-applying to companies unfamiliar with the process. SALT Manager roles are concentrated in Big 4 firms, large regional accounting practices, and in-house tax teams at multistate corporations.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a State and Local Tax Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes. State and Local Tax Manager positions require a bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, taxation, finance, or a directly related field, which satisfies the E-3 specialty occupation requirement. Roles involving nexus determination, multistate apportionment, or tax controversy work have a well-established degree requirement that supports the visa classification.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Australian tax professionals?
The E-3 is available only to Australian citizens and has no annual lottery, no cap backlog, and renews in two-year increments indefinitely. The H-1B requires lottery selection and has a wait for most applicants. For a qualified Australian SALT professional, the E-3 is a direct path that bypasses the uncertainty that makes H-1B sponsorship risky for employers.
Can I transfer my E-3 status if I change employers after being hired?
Yes, but your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need to obtain a new E-3 visa stamp at an Australian consulate before re-entering the U.S., or in some cases apply for a change of status. Your E-3 is tied to your specific employer and role, so a new offer restarts the process.
