Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Mortgage Consultant
Verify your degree maps to the role
USCIS requires your bachelor's degree field to directly relate to mortgage consulting work. A finance, economics, or business degree strengthens your case. A general arts degree with unrelated coursework creates specialty occupation risk at the consulate.
Target banks over mortgage brokerages
Federally chartered banks and credit unions have dedicated HR compliance teams familiar with LCA filings and DOL prevailing wage rules. Independent brokerages often lack the infrastructure to sponsor a visa, even when they want to hire you.
Request the LCA before you resign
Your employer must file and receive a certified Labor Condition Application from DOL before you can apply at the consulate. Confirm they've started this step, as LCA certification typically takes seven business days and cannot be skipped.
Use Migrate Mate to coordinate your filing
Once you have a job offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork from offer letter to consulate appointment, so nothing falls through the gap between your employer's HR team and your application deadline.
Prepare NMLS context for your consular officer
U.S. mortgage consultants work under the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System. Your consular officer may ask how your Australian lending credentials align. Prepare a clear explanation of your equivalency before your interview rather than discovering the gap on the day.
Time your application around state licensing timelines
Most U.S. states require an active NMLS license before a mortgage consultant can originate loans. Factor state licensing processing time into your start date negotiation with your employer so your E-3 approval and your license align.
E-3 Visa Mortgage Consultant: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Mortgage Consultant jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search for Mortgage Consultant roles where employers are already open to E-3 sponsorship. Standard job boards mix in roles where employers have no visa experience and no process for LCA filing. Filtering for E-3-aware employers at the search stage saves significant time and avoids offers that collapse at the sponsorship conversation.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Mortgage Consultant role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the position genuinely requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field like finance, economics, or business administration. The role must not be one where any bachelor's degree satisfies the requirement regardless of field. Job descriptions that list a degree as preferred rather than required create specialty occupation risk, so confirm the employer's offer letter frames the degree requirement as mandatory.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Mortgage Consultant roles?
The E-3 has no annual lottery and no cap, so an Australian mortgage consultant with a qualifying job offer can apply directly at the consulate without waiting for a selection round. H-1B visa petitions enter a randomised lottery with roughly a one-in-four selection rate. E-3 renewals are also indefinite, whereas H-1B holders face a six-year base limit without an approved immigrant petition.
Can I switch mortgage employers while on an E-3 visa?
Yes, but the process restarts with each new employer. Your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp if your current one has expired, or you can change status within the U.S. if you're already here. There's no portability mechanism like the one available under H-1B, so plan your transition timeline to avoid a gap in work authorisation.
