Translate your Australian tax credentials
CPA (Australia) and CA ANZ designations aren't automatically recognized by U.S. employers. Prepare a one-page credential summary explaining how your qualifications map to CPA licensure requirements in the state where the role is based.
Clarify the specialty occupation connection upfront
Some hiring managers assume general tax work doesn't qualify as a specialty occupation. Confirm early in conversations that your role requires a degree in accounting, taxation, or a related field, that's the exact threshold USCIS applies.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for LCA and paperwork
The LCA must be certified by the DOL before your consulate appointment. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork so your employer isn't navigating the process alone and your timeline doesn't slip.
Time your job search around the tax season cycle
U.S. public accounting firms typically hire for January and September start dates. Applying outside those windows can mean a longer wait for an offer, which compresses your LCA and visa preparation timeline before your intended start.
Prepare for prevailing wage questions during offer negotiation
Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing wage for your job title and location. If the initial offer comes in below that threshold, the LCA will fail, so confirm the prevailing wage level before finalizing your compensation package.
E-3 Visa Tax Consultant: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Tax Consultant jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search, it surfaces Tax Consultant roles where employers have active E-3 or H-1B sponsorship history, so you're not cold-applying and hoping. Filter by role, location, and visa type to find employers who already understand the process and have filed LCAs for similar positions.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Tax Consultant role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the position genuinely requires a bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, finance, taxation, or a directly related field. Roles that accept any degree or where the degree requirement is listed as preferred rather than required can fail the specialty occupation test. Your offer letter and job description should make the degree requirement explicit before you apply.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Tax Consultant roles?
The E-3 has a 10,500 annual cap that has never been fully used, so there's no lottery and no random selection, you either qualify and get sponsored, or you don't. The H-1B is subject to an oversubscribed lottery with a roughly 25 percent selection rate in recent years. For Australian tax professionals, the E-3 is a direct path where H-1B is a gamble.
Can I change employers or move from public accounting to a corporate tax role while on E-3 status?
Yes, but each new employer must file a fresh LCA and you'll need a new visa stamp if you've left the U.S. or if your current stamp has expired. The status itself doesn't transfer automatically. Start the new LCA process before your last day at the previous employer to avoid any gap in authorized employment.
