Electrical Design Technician Jobs in Rochester: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a electrical design technician job in Rochester?
Focus your search on Rochester's advanced manufacturing, photonics, and defense electronics employers, which drive the strongest local demand for electrical design technicians. The Eastman Business Park and East Side industrial corridors are where most openings cluster. Candidates with hands-on CAD and AutoCAD Electrical experience, familiarity with PCB layout, and exposure to defense or optics applications stand out in Rochester's competitive market.
Which companies hire electrical design technicians in Rochester?
Rochester electrical design technician roles are posted by L3Harris, Popli Design, and Jobot and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Rochester's hiring mix leans toward precision manufacturing firms, optics and photonics companies, and defense contractors with deep roots in the region.

Yes, though with limits, since electrical design work often requires access to lab equipment, physical prototypes, and on-site systems. About 9% of electrical design technician openings tied to Rochester are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with most flexibility found in documentation, schematic review, and specification writing tasks rather than hands-on design and testing work.
How can I get a electrical design technician job in Rochester with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Rochester is through associate-degree programs at Monroe Community College or RIT, which feed directly into local manufacturing and optics employers. Target junior technician or design support roles at mid-size defense and photonics suppliers in the Eastman Business Park area. Internship experience with any Rochester-area manufacturer, even in a related field, gives candidates a concrete edge over those with purely academic backgrounds.
