Electrical Engineer Jobs in Pittsburgh: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a electrical engineer job in Pittsburgh?
Focus your search on Pittsburgh's defense contractors, energy companies, and advanced manufacturing firms, which cluster in areas like the Strip District, Southside Works, and the Mon Valley corridor. Candidates with power systems, embedded systems, or robotics experience stand out in this market. Networking through Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh engineering programs also opens doors to local employers who hire directly from those pipelines.
Which companies hire electrical engineers in Pittsburgh?
Companies currently hiring electrical engineers in Pittsburgh include Voyager Technologies, ms consultants, and Industrial Scientific, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Pittsburgh's hiring base is a mix of large defense and energy primes, regional utilities, and a growing number of robotics and autonomous systems startups.
Are there remote electrical engineer jobs in Pittsburgh?
Yes, though remote availability is limited for electrical engineers since much of the work involves physical systems, lab environments, or on-site testing. About 90% of electrical engineer openings tied to Pittsburgh are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, skewing toward roles in systems design, firmware development, and project management rather than hands-on hardware work.
How can I get a electrical engineer job in Pittsburgh with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Pittsburgh is through co-op or internship programs at firms connected to Carnegie Mellon or Pitt's engineering schools, which frequently convert to full-time roles. Entry-level candidates should target roles like junior electrical engineer, test engineer, or systems technician at regional utilities and mid-size defense subcontractors in the greater Pittsburgh area, where competition is lower than at large primes.
Which industries hire the most electrical engineers in Pittsburgh?
The sectors hiring the most electrical engineers in Pittsburgh are Manufacturing, Electronics & Hardware, and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Pittsburgh's industrial heritage and its growing robotics and autonomous vehicle research ecosystem make it a consistent source of electrical engineering demand well beyond a single sector.
