Your Job
John Zink is hiring a Field Service Technician to support refining and petrochemical customers across the Albuquerque, NM region. In this customer facing role, you'll serve as a field expert—commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintaining industrial combustion, electrical, and control systems that are critical to safe, reliable plant operations.
Travel: This role requires 75%+ regional travel, with occasional national travel.
Home Base: Albuquerque, NM, or anywhere along the I 40 corridor between Albuquerque and Amarillo, TX. This territory includes an established customer base with opportunity to grow existing accounts and develop new business, not just maintain current work.

Our equipment group business supplies components for applications in various markets with a focus on the refining and petrochemical Industry. Our Field Service Technicians support our customers at their sites across the country with their commissioning, maintenance and other service needs.
What You Will Do
- Travel from your home base to customer sites to perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and commissioning of industrial equipment.
- Service and support electrical, mechanical, and control systems, including PLCs (Allen-Bradley, GE), VFDs, motors, pumps, valves, actuators, positioners, combustion/vapor control equipment, and emissions monitoring systems.
- Commission, troubleshoot, and modify industrial control systems, including PLC logic, PID loops, HMIs, and related devices.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical, controls, and instrumentation issues in live industrial environments using safe, effective work practices.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to support urgent customer needs.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, including redlines on drawings and schematics.
- Perform work in confined spaces while following all required safety and entry procedures.
- Build strong customer relationships through clear, professional, and proactive communication.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Hands on experience modifying, diagnosing, and troubleshooting PLC based control systems, including Allen Bradley, GE, or similar platforms.
- Working knowledge and application of NFPA 70E electrical safety standards.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and fabrication drawings.
- Willingness and ability to travel 75% or more within the assigned region.
- Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) within six (6) weeks of employment.
- Valid driver's license with the ability to operate a company vehicle.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally and 25 lbs routinely.
- Ability to bend, stoop, crawl, climb, and maneuver around industrial equipment and piping.
- Ability to work in outdoor environments, sometimes for extended or irregular workdays.
- Ability to enter and work in confined or enclosed spaces for extended periods.
- Visual and auditory capability to safely perform electrical and mechanical diagnostics.
What Will Put You Ahead
- Field service experience in petrochemical, refining, power generation, renewable energy, pulp & paper, or food processing industries.
- Strong experience with industrial electrical and electronic equipment, including motors, VFDs, valves, actuators, and transmitters.
- Experience programming, calibrating, and configuring instrumentation, including 4-20 mA loop devices.
- Prior commissioning experience on complex industrial or combustion systems.
Compensation
For this role, we anticipate paying $35 - $47 an hour. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
