Senior Electrical Engineer – Embedded Hardware
The Senior Electrical Engineer – Embedded Hardware will be responsible for designing, adapting, and troubleshooting embedded communications circuits for performance, cost, and manufacturability. Hardware circuits could include MCUs, antenna tuning, filters, low-noise amplifiers, transmit amplifiers, transceivers, and low noise power supplies to operate these circuits. The Senior Engineer will also be responsible for driving awareness of MCU selection/evaluation, product regulations and working with project teams to drive new intelligent feature design release.
You’ll also be DISRUPTIVE through these duties and responsibilities:
- Mentor junior engineers in engineering best practices including task management, Gantt charts, root cause analysis, circuit / PCB design, and PCBA manufacturing.
- Design, prototype, test, and troubleshoot hardware for communications applications at a platform level to meet Milwaukee Tool’s needs.
- Design and qualify new designs to applicable regulatory standards such as FCC, IC, CE, UL, Bluetooth, NFC, etc.
- Lead technology investigations, develop system requirements, define future architectures and reusability strategies.
- Work with marketing, project leadership, and product owners to add new communications features for next generation power tools, both wired and wireless.
- Use laboratory equipment such as network analyzers, power analyzers, spectrum analyzers, protocol analyzers, oscilloscopes, and data acquisition systems.
- Lead the development of test plans/procedures and test cases for new product embedded systems and subsystems development.
- Make minor firmware modifications to generate and adjust prototypes.
- Effectively communicate and motivate up, down and across the organization to a diverse range of technical and non-technical team members. Driving effective tradeoff discussions.
- Drive urgency in project schedules and accountability for establishing and achieving key project metrics that meet the organization’s needs.
What TOOLS you’ll bring with you:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of embedded systems experience, including MCU selection/evaluation.
- Understanding of digital circuits and the interaction between firmware and electronics in a communications system.
- Ability to realize component level design and test for signal integrity.
- Familiarity with using schematic capture, PCB layout software, and knowledge of industry best practices.
- Proficiency in creating sub-system and component level design requirements.
- Proficiency with standard lab equipment and specialized communication test equipment.
- Self-motivated, organized, efficient, and process oriented with a strong work ethic.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, exercises independent judgement and works well under pressure in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to travel 10% of the time (domestic and international).
Other TOOLS we prefer you to have:
- Master's degree in electrical engineering or related field.
- Working knowledge of a second modern programming language such as Python or C++.
- Familiarity of wireless regulatory certification standards such as FCC, IC, CE, etc.
- Knowledge of Bluetooth Low Energy protocols and features and understanding power management and ultra-low power embedded hardware and firmware implementations.
