Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two (2) weeks of the closing date.
The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) General Services Bureau (GSB) provides facility management services for five hundred plus (500+) customers housed in fifteen (15) state owned buildings, on over two hundred sixty thousand plus (260,000+) square feet of space on approximately twenty six (26) acres of property.
As a valued new employee to NMDOT you may be eligible to receive three (3) days of administrative leave upon your start date. This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government.
Why does the job exist?
This position will install, maintain and repair electrical wiring and fixtures at the NMDOT General Office complex in compliance with all state and local building codes and the National Electric Code as well as participate in project planning, preparation, and implementation phases.
How does it get done?
The primary responsibilities of this position will include:
- Directing and participating in repair and maintenance of electrical systems and related equipment.
- Obtaining quotes or estimates for wiring fixtures or any electrical related items needed for the job.
- Maintaining stock inventory of regularly used tools, supplies and equipment.

Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or Equivalent and one (1) year of experience maintaining and repairing existing electrical systems, in addition to the minimum experience requirement for journeyman electrician certificate, to include wiring, equipment, and/or fixtures in accordance with applicable currently adopted New Mexico Electric Code. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience. Must be journeyman certified in accordance with Construction Industries Division licensing, 60-13-1 through 60-13-59; 14.6.3.1 through 14.6.3.9 NMAC; 14.6.4.1 through 14.6.4.8; and 14.6.6.1 through 14.6.6.14, as applicable.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily indoors with occasional outdoor work in the field in varying weather conditions—hot or cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow. Exposure to sunlight, dust, pollen, chemicals and may include exposure to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles, rough/rugged terrain, noxious plants and infected trash, exposure to hazardous chemicals, insects and reptiles, loud noises, confined spaces, stressful situations, subject to falls and bruises, considerable physical strain, interaction with the public, state officials by phone and in person, irregular hours day or night, subject to call out for emergencies. Continuous, sitting, standing, bending, squatting, stooping, crouching, climbing, reaching, kneeling, crawling, digging, shoveling, lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders. Also must be able to perform snow removal duties, as needed. Must be able to drive a truck or van.
