Entry Level Elementary Teacher Jobs

POSITION GOAL
To provide and create a high-quality physical education learning environment that is safe, meaningful, motivational, and appropriate for the grades K-6, promoting lifelong physical fitness, healthy habits, and good sportsmanship among students.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• BA/BS in Physical Education, Health Education, Kinesiology, or related field, with 24 credit hours in the subject specialization.
• Teacher Licensure and Endorsement in Physical Education as appropriate for New Mexico.
• Knowledge of fiscal compliance as required P.L. 100-297, IDEA, P.L. 107-110 (NCLB).
• Bilingual (Navajo/English) preferred.
• Have a valid driver's license.
• Current CPR/First Aid certification, or ability to obtain within [30/60] days of hire.

NAVAJO PREFERENCE
Preferential consideration for employment will be given to persons of documented Navajo tribal membership who meet the qualifications above, in accordance with the requirements of the Navajo Preference in Employment Act.

• Ability to demonstrate new skills and subject areas through formal training.
• Ability to prepare oral and written reports on the job and follow specific written instructions.
• Experience coaching or organizing youth sports and physical activities.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Complies with, supports, and efficiently carries out all responsibilities in accordance with SASI policies and procedures.
• Represents SASI in a professional manner that enhances community understanding of the program.
• Maintains a high personal standard of professional and ethical conduct.
• Interacts with staff, students, parents, and visitors in a welcoming and friendly manner.
• Works as a team member with all SASI staff.
• Protects the confidentiality of student and personnel information.
• Supports and meets the six New Mexico State Competencies:
  a. The teacher communicates accurately and effectively in the content area and maintains a professional rapport with students.
  b. The teacher maintains communication and feedback from students in a manner that enhances students' learning and understanding.
  c. The teacher appropriately utilizes a variety of teaching methods and resources for each area taught.
  d. The teacher engages the development of student involvement, responsibility, critical thinking skills, and appropriate physical education vocabulary and concepts.
  e. The teacher manages the gymnasium, field, or activity space to ensure the best use of instructional time.
  f. The teacher creates an atmosphere conducive to learning, achievement, physical activity, and self-discipline.
• Agrees to support and implement the adopted physical education curriculum for use by SASI, including applicable New Mexico Physical Education Content Standards and Benchmarks.
• Submits daily attendance and weekly lesson plans aligned with New Mexico State Standards and Benchmarks.
• Works effectively as a team member in collecting and analyzing student fitness/performance data systematically through an on-going process of planning, developing, implementing, and progress monitoring to achieve established goals.
• Models effective classroom and activity-space management techniques and teaching strategies using a variety of instructional approaches (games, drills, fitness activities, team and individual sports) to assure that students have the opportunity to learn to their fullest potential.
• Implements an on-going analysis and appraisal of student progress, while maintaining accurate files and records.
• Administers physical fitness assessments and standardized test instruments as scheduled and assigned.
• Refers students for diagnostic testing, adaptive PE services, or other support as appropriate.
• Inspects and assures that gymnasium/field equipment and facilities are safe, properly maintained, and free from unwarranted wear and tear, damage, or safety hazards; reports needed repairs promptly.
• Provides for own professional growth through reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, in-services, and actively participates in trainings as scheduled by the supervisor.
• Participates in parent conferences and two PAC meetings per year.
• Participates in SASI sponsored activities, some of which may require work in the evenings/nights (e.g., field days, sports events, family fitness nights).
• Enforces safety rules and procedures during physical activity, including proper use of equipment and supervision of students at all times.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Will be evaluated in accordance with the Shiprock Associated Schools, Inc. policies and procedures.
